Should I go from M2 to M550i?

Though I have been really pleased with how my M2 drives/handles/looks I've always felt the interior is a bit spartan and lacking for tech. I guess I was spoiled coming from my loaded 15 535i M Sport interior. I drove a 19 M550i over the weekend and really like the car as a whole in that it's luxurious on the inside, full of tech, fast and handled plenty sporty. Obviously not as sharp as my M2 but really good. I posted this in the G30 forum for thoughts so I thought getting this groups thoughts would be helpful. TY.

Garage List
Apples and oranges comparing a larger sports sedan to a more personal smaller M sports coupe.
Do you carry passengers often?
Since there is probably a 15-20K+ price difference depending upon options, I'm guessing cost is not a factor.
From your description, it appears a larger sports sedan is more your speed.
For each his own.

Hell yes! If the M550i is financially feasible, go for it. That's a sweet ride with a sweet interior. I think the only complaints I've seen, in the various review vids we've watched, are about all the buttons and settings. You lose some of the easy just-get-in-and-drive simplicity of the M2. Seems there's a setting for everything and 18 million combinations of settings which can be fun if your day job is piloting a Boeing 767 but not as much fun if you aren't into all of that.

Side thought...in most of the vids they showed off the Frozen Red color, which looks amazing in photos and videos. But make sure you see one in person - don't order blind. We loved it in videos, because it looks like you get that satin finish without it looking like you've wrapped the car. But we saw the Frozen Red in person at the Welt, and it still looks like a wrapped car. Now that I've seen it in person, I personally would stick with a gloss paint. So just make sure that if you are interested in the Frozen colors, see it in person before placing the order.

The car I'm considering is Dark Graphite Metallic. The frozen colors do look nice but the care for them is a bit more than other paint.

I drove 2 different 2015 535i M Sports yesterday and I didn't really think of the interior as being anything too special over a 2018 M2. I agree that the M2 is a bit spartan, but what specifically about the 535i interior are you talking about in reference to feeling spoiled compared to the M2?

The new 5 series is a few steps up from the '15 model in terms of whistles and bells.

Depends on your driving habits. I'd consider it. M550i is a sweet rig and you get a V8 with xDrive.

I would assume so, but he specifically said "I guess I was spoiled coming from my loaded 15 535i M Sport interior." which is what I was asking about after I just drove two of them.

Two very different cars. The M2 is a dual purpose daily driver and fun track machine (with minor mods). The other car is not.

The M5 might present a more interesting choice to some.

If I wanted more luxury than the m2 but wanted sporty I would look at the m3/m4 (a step up), c63 (luxary), or Audi rs3/5 (tech).

I love both, but I wanted a sporty little coupe. 2 very different choices. Have to decide what you want. Luckily I can have more than 1 car, so I have something for just about everything. The M2 is the newest car we have but for the luxury/comfort we have an '03 M5 and '04 X5 4.8iS.

Well, I put the kabosh on it until the 20's come out as its rumored to have a 70 horsepower bump and as a multi-time return customer the sales mgr said I could just order the 20 to my exact spec (Donnigton Gray instead of Graphite) with the same discount. As far as the 15 535i M Sport, it had the executive seating, larger screen and was just a more upscale feel than the M2.

The M550, while fast, is very boring (to me). I had some extensive driving in it when I helped a friend pick it up 8 hours away. It is a luxury car. The M5 (another friend got one of those) is better but still not great and I hope the M5 Comp is perfect.

That said... I get what you are saying about the M2. I went for a 650GC with leather everywhere to the M2. I really enjoyed the M2 from the "sports" part of the car, but the ride and lack of tchotchkes got to me.

So I went with the M3 after a year of M2 ownership. It has the luxury component I was missing and yet still is a true sports car (even with the shocks on comfort unfortunately ) No regrets - well, ok, I miss the N55 a lot.

The M550i xDrive is a hell of a sedan and the M2 Competition is a hell of a little sports coupe. The real question is...how old do you feel ???

Had a 2018 535i as a loaner while my M2 was in the shop. My wife also owned a new 07 Hyundai Sonata 10 years ago. Felt nostalgic driving the 535i again.

Seriously, I don't get the 5 series. But if you like it, kudos to you.

kinda like asking if you should go with a velvet lined African mahogany coffin instead of a titanium earn...i say this because if you're considering a 5/7 series, you've already given up on life.

That's funny.

The M2 is an awesome little car, but it's a bit too much (loud, stiff) for me as a DD.

I've (apparently) given up, and for the long trips and most commuting chores its a nice big quiet comfortable yet incredibly powerful and fast 750i for moi.

The only option it doesn't have is the massaging seats and I... oh wait, it's got those too!

Why do you miss the n55, isnt tbe s55 leaps and bounds ahead in driving experience?
