ED pricing - options and packages

In the US, the 2019 M2 MSRP is $58,900 and ED MSRP is $55,955 -- exactly a 5% discount. Is there a lower ED pricing for options and packages? I didn't see anything in the BMW suggesting pricing guide.

No, the 5% discount will apply to the options and packages too, exclusive of the Destination Charge. You'll have to pay all of that ($995 if I remember right).

Call your dealer, because not all dealers will agree to an ED with the discount advertised by BMW NA. It's at the dealer's discretion, so shop around.

No extra costs to the buyer.

The car needs to get the US regardless of ED or not. You pay the same destination charge of $995.

This source says that the discount on options is 8%.

Edit: I guess this is for calculating invoice pricing. I did get my first ED for $500. over ED invoice. I don't think M cars usually get that much discount though.

I actually didn't get a discount at all on options, but I got ED So I guess I lost out on $140., no biggie.

This is incorrect - the ED MSRP is 5% off only the base price; MSRP for options remains the same. Of course, the 'S' in 'MSRP' is for 'suggested', which means you can still negotiate, in theory.

That post is actually talking about invoice prices - it's saying the invoice price of options is 8% below the MSRP, not that the ED MSRP for options is 8% off the standard MSRP.

I didn't get any discount on options either, which is normal for an M2 - was just happy to get the 'suggested' 5% off the base price.

Thanks bobert. I didn't get any ED discount on options/packages either. Just wanted to confirm this is the norm.

As you mentioned, AlpsRider's linked post refers to invoice pricing, not MSRP. Still useful to know for bargaining, but I doubt anyone will get M2C invoice pricing this year.

I stand corrected. Just went back through our purchase order from the dealer, and the 5% is only on the base MSRP (which I cited in another thread today, so I'm not totally FOS).

So basically, BMW is letting you go to Europe for free (5% discount to cover expenses)?
Why isn't everybody doing this?

Not all dealerships offer ED. Some offer ED, but don't provide the discount. The automobile dealership model is outmoded (in the USA at least), but that's a different topic. Then I'm sure people have personal reasons: can't travel, get time off work, want the car immediately, etc.

Shhhhhhh, not so loud. Exclusivity is part of the appeal.

Not so long ago, the ED discount for US buyers was 7%, and BMW would cover you (and even encouraged customers) to drive on the Nurburgring.

The "free" trip to Europe is a bit of a misnomer; as I (very eloquently) described in another thread yesterday, getting over/back to Europe for US $3k is not easily done. Heck, if you stayed in the sort of hotels that Forum Member Houbi recommends, then the trip cost would easily be 3x higher, and you probably wouldn't be able to wear sweat pants in the breakfast room like my own brother did on a European trip with us some years back.

Our top-speed record on the unrestricted portions of the autobahns is 125 mph (speedo indicated) in an Audi A4 TDI wagon that we rented. (The wankers gave our BMW 3 series to another customer, because our flight was about 30 minutes late...) Anyway, even with the break-in period restrictions, I hope to eclipse that mark by at least a little, and then get the hell out of the way when the truly fast drivers come storming past.

BTW, here's an excellent article on European Delivery, if you can access the 'Car & Driver' USA website: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/bu...delivery-works

You must be able to find some tickets around 750$pp two-ways, no?
And hotel really doesn't have to cost more than €100 per night. Of course, it can be and to each his own, but it certainly doesn't have to be.

Yes, but such low-cost airfare is not always easy to find, nor convenient. However, SAS and Norwegian Air are possibilities. It just depends on if the buyer has a flexible schedule.

As to hotel, we look for a place that is highly-rated (for example, on TripAdvisor or Booking.com), includes breakfast, and can be cancelled within reason if something happens to affect the trip/schedule, and fits my idea of "value". If the ED buyer wants to spend most of the time in Switzerland, then the 100 euro (equivalent) nightly hotel budget will be much more difficult.

I booked through the BMW Travel agent which is HRG North America. They have a contract with BMW to give ED travelers a $200. discount through Delta Airlines. It was by far the cheapest ticket I could find with good connections. I will not buy a cut rate ticket that takes 20 hours for a 13 hour flight.

Switzerland is expensive, but to save money there stay at hotels in the countryside it is much cheaper. I booked a room in the mountains in a nice hotel with pool etc. for $75., although it is a single room. If you stay in Geneva or Zurich...you will pay! If you want to stay in Geneva, consider staying across the border in France it is very close. In fact I'd recommend Annecy or Évian-les-Bains for places on the nice charming side or just stay in Annemasse which is a French town that is literally connected to Geneva.

Do they still take the warning triangle and first aid kit out at VDC? Do people just pack those in their luggage?

I took everything out of the car before my last drop-off, including the first-aid kit and the triangle. I even took out the tow hook which is really heavy. Customs gave me a hard time about it because I had it in my carry-on luggage. If you take the tow hook put it in the checked baggage.

We just did a 2 week ED end of June. Plane tickets out of Dulles were $1000 each for 3 of us, taxes & fees were half of that. Even with using hotel points for a few nights, hotels were by far the biggest expense. Our hotel requirements were free WiFi (for the 10 yr old), some privacy from the boy, and parking, mostly highway robbery in the cities.

Top speed after the break-in service was 138 mph on the autobahn, unfortunately the speed limit, construction and traffic thwarted any further attempts at beating that. I also got nowhere near than on the Nurburgring. We would do it again in a heartbeat, just probably not 1834 miles.

I took the warning triangle, vests, and first aid kit in luggage, tow hook was left under the trunk liner. Forgot the usb euro maps though.
