Although I had to look for a dealer in Texas to get a car at MSRP, I don't begrudge them getting more.

We celebrate on the threads here when you can get a car below MSRP. Would you ever walk into a dealer and say "Oh no, I know you're willing to sell at invoice but that's just not right...I'll pay MSRP!"

Why is it different the other way?

If they can get someone to pay 10K over then so be it. If they can't sell a car unless its at invoice....so be it.

Which TX dealer did you use, was your deal MSRP or below?

If they can get more, then more power to them. But for those of us who do not wish to overpay, I started this thread as a resource to point people in the direction of dealers who aren't scalping.

Sure, some people will overpay because they have more money than sense, but cars do have real, if depreciating, value and to overpay puts you waaay behind the value curve. If you wanted to sell your car, you will not get back the ADM overpayment, so you are just amplifying the depreciation.
For some that doesn't matter (as I noted above, some people have more money than sense). For many of us, it does matter, even if we can afford the markup, because it just isn't anything remotely resembling a sound financial decision to pay more than something is worth.

But by all means, pay extra if you like. It's a free-ish country.

Yes, this. For some of us, paying over puts the car out of reach, for some though they literally have more money that they know what to do with and 10K is nothing to them (its 10K to me!). These types of people also care little of resale value.

They want this this car right now and if it takes an extra 10K to get it, that's worth it to them, it doesn't necessarily make them less sensical. There are many (most) dealers in California more than willing to accommodate them.

i have one on order @ msrp. ill bet supply and demand catch up by the end of the year. i really dont think its going to be a major difference from my 17 M2 for many to justify the cost. if i really evaluated it rationally, i dont think i would do it. im figuring 25-30 and my car out the door. no tax credit in CA!! carl

I rather have BMW pocket that money and put it toward R&D or whatever rather than in the pockets of a dealership that does what? They receive the car and do some paper work for a car I already want to buy? What service are they getting paid for?

How do you figure 25-30k difference? Your car even if it's a 16 with some miles is probably still worth 43-45 right now. Unless you get a M2C with Exec, DCT, and a bunch of M performance parts I don't see how it would cost 75K.

I believe that my dealer, BMW of Bridgewater in N.J. does not mark up the cars for longstanding customers, BMW CCA members, etc.
Also, they do ED.
Ask for Carmine. Great guy.

BMW OF MIDLOTHIAN. All M Cars are at MSRP. My CA does not MARK UP any car. Long as your loyal and upfront my CA will take care of you. Ask for Roshan only, My CA. He will be the point of contact for all special orders and M Cars. I have been buying from him since 2010.
