I like how the exhaust pipes have gradually moved further out over time.

E90 m3 bumper contributed to aerodynamics and was purposely that size

Edit: I meant muffler. Muffler contributes to aerodynamics although the bumper probably does as well.

Yes...although the M3 has always had its exhaust pipes closer together than the M5.

Two things:
1) For as much love as I (and many others) have for the E46 M3, when isolated the bumper is very underwhelming. I still love the car overall for the design.
2) The E39 M5 bumper is so choice.

Note that these pictures are not all taken from the same location/angle of view. For example, note on that E90 picture how you have a clear view underneath the car to see the differential heat sink fins. That same view exists on the E92, but that picture is taken from a higher point of view.

Maybe the it's because the trailer hitch doesn't fit with the evolution of the M?

Oh boy.

Last time I checked, M cars had an S in their engine code, forgot what BMW debuted the most powerful M motor? that's still in production? after 10 years?

While you check, feel free to share your 2 cents on....
What does that make the 1M and Pre-LCI M2?

330i ZHP had more ///M points.

Good thing with the F85 infront: with bad, rainy weather the GT3 with the semi slicks may stay on the trailer and I'll take the M to the track...

Igor_M5 Don't start the S engine debate....

(also note the Style 135's on my ZHP, next to my X6M - maybe I'm a full poseur)

M2 has the worst rear end, they forgot to shrink the m4 lights when designing the 2 and the rear bumper is a bloater of an ass.
It seems to me that the diffusers on all Ms dont quite cover the exhaust backbox properly which is a shame as you end up seeing the box when following our cars. I replaced the standard one om my 1M with a carbon one from lightweight in germany and it looks totally standard except for it goes under the car a bit further and fully shrouds the backbox giving a nice clean look.
