Not a DD. Drive it once or twice a week when the weather is nice and I choose a route that I can have some fun on.

Fretwire. (Input/Output)
While watching the Beachwood Sparks' show last September, I was reminded of the Rolling Stones. Not the incarnation that is presently wending its way around North America, I mean from 1967. Or maybe 1971. I'm not sure, since I wasn't around then, but neither was anyone in the band or at the show that night. I just thought the drummer looked like Keith Richards. The general consensus is that the Sparks really sound more like the Byrds. One thing is for sure though, this incredibly hip California band, and its adoring fans, are somewhat of an anachronism, with their shaggy hair and slim-fitting bellbottoms.
For more information: https://revistas.upcomillas.es/index...cProfile/18219
Heading home after the show (at which the Sparks did prove to be incredibly adept at folk-rock psychedelia), my friend commented on the sounds of Interpol coming from my carspeakers. "They sound like all the stuff I've been dancing to for years." Meaning, Joy Division. No one hears this up-and-coming New York band without commenting on their familiar sound, and yet there is something so intriguing in its new LP, Turn on the Bright Lights [Matador], that I can't help but enjoy it. While neither of these bands are original, there's something comfortable in their sounds, and knowing that the music is derivative doesn't always diminish the impact.

Though many will read this and argue that nothing original has actually happened in decades, the charts have been dominated the past ten years by hip-hop--which is undeniably doing its own thing--and technology has enabled dance music to take off in areas previously unimaginable. Rock hasn't been so lucky. These days, with the rise of the White Stripes and the Strokes being heralded as the return to garage rock (or perhaps a garage rock revival revival?), everything old is new again. Similarly, the '80s have returned with a vengeance in the form of multiple reissues and box sets, and the increasing popularity of electro-clash in the dance scene. While I might agree that nostalgia for what has come before is always around, I submit that the underground music scene is embracing that nostalgia a little more ferociously these days. Maybe we need things to be familiar, Having the country in a such a state of insecurity makes us yearn for simpler times, and the best way to recreate that is to recreate the soundtrack.

Responding to the need for nostalgia thru year--perhaps without even realizing it--comes the Baypop Festival, an event sponsored by GP (and some other fine groups) that takes place in and around San Francisco, November 12-17. The extravaganza features some original garage rockers--the Electric Prunes and the Chocolate Watchband--as well as Jason Falkner, Chris Von Sneidern, and local heroes the Orange Peels and Call and Response. Now in it's third year, Baypop lives up to its name, bringing some of the finest pop around to the Bay Area. To find out more about this year's events.

The music snobs of the world will always continue to think "things were better when...." And maybe in some instances, they're right. Meanwhile, bands such as the Beachwood Sparks and Interpol will continue twisting the familiar into something new, at the very least introducing a younger audience to classic sounds. And at best, just generally making people feel better.

Not a DD but I put 10k miles on it in a year. Yes I go on drives for pleasure a lot.

Doesn't matter if it's a rare car or not, I'm driving it, not saving it for the next guy.

I DD my M2 to work. About 30 km each way so 60 km in total. It's a blast to drive, unfortunately living in a large City, too much traffic to really stretch its legs. Usually take it out early on Sunday for a run. Now that the weather is getting better, I'm sure there will be more opportunities to stretch its legs.

Yes, DD almost every day, 35 - 40 miles depending on which route I take. Have the wife's X5 for wintry days, which, in the past 2 years, has been less than 10 days. Just crossed the 25k mark this week.

Why would it have to go?

For the first year that I owned the car, I didn't DD. Because of work and other personal priorities, I only logged 890 miles in 1 year.

Last month, I started DD 64 miles round trip in horrible Los Angeles traffic. It honestly makes the commute more fun...even with my manual M2. More than doubled my mileage in the last month.

Yes sir. I daily drive it and also use it for long road trips as well. I live in Chicago and drive my M2 to visit friends in Florida and California. I usually trade in my cars every 3 years, but I am going to keep the M2 until it falls apart or I fall apart. The M2 is fun to drive, good looking, and also quite civilized. Still can't believe the M2 offers all these for around $55K.

Yep. Daily Drive for me. Around 50km round trip per day, plus another 150kms per week calling on clients. Absolutely makes the trek to work enjoyable and fun everyday.

Learnt my lesson with the 1M. Only drove on the weekends and didn't really get to her enjoy her talents sadly enough.
