Got the car back last Friday. I can confirm that MDM is much more playful before stepping in to save my life. I'm not even sure it even stepped in, I didn't notice any flashing on the dash despite going fairly sideways.
PDC actually stops beeping at you when you put the car in neutral (6MT)!!! Had to roll forward slightly before to get PDC to shut up. Steering feels tighter, and a tad heavier in sport+ than before, and I also want to say ASD is not as obtrusive as before but I don't have any hard evidence to support this. Burbles are definitely present and accounted for, although it did take a bit of driving for them to show up. Overall, I really like the update. PDC behaving correctly is a win by itself. |

just got my update done. It's now "O" something. I came from original version, car is MY17 but delivered late in 2016. Was J163831 previously.
I finally got the update after trying twice with the dealer before. My head unit had gotten itself into anti-theft mode and they ended up replacing it and updating the entire car. I can't say I notice a difference in the steering. The PDC definitely is improved (6MT) and stops the infernal beeping immediately when put into neutral. As others have said, that's worth the price of admission right there. But I absolutely positively notice an increase in torque. I wanted to baseline as well as I could prior to the update because of the earlier "conversations" about the placebo effect. All mental, no Dragy or dyno. But let me just say that traction was not an issue before (both with stock and BM3 Stage 2 tune; I have a catted dp) and that's now changed. I can break the tires loose where I couldn't before. not that I hadn't been able before, but that it was more difficult. I had questioned my launch techniques and skills before, but it's a lot easier to bust it loose now. Don't know what to attribute it to so I won't speculate. But it's different. I haven't yet re-applied the tune. Using the BM3 app, I had re-set adaptations before, and had not noticed a difference. So unless there is some other set of adaptations that are re-set with the new flash, I don't believe that's what's driving the change. Needless to say, it's a welcome change and I'm happy with the results. If you have an older istep (remember mine was J) and can get it updated, I'd highly recommend. I have a ticket open with BM3 for how to deal with the new ROM and will re-apply Stage 2 once I get that figured out. |

My other concern, was not so much if I could flash BM3 after an iSTEP update, but how I could go back to stock and lock at the correct iSTEP version if I wanted to. I plan to go back to stock and lock every visit to a dealer, just in case they want to do an iSTEP update for any reason, and I'm concerned that their update software might fail if the DME is out of sync. I'd heard that each map, even the OTS ones, are based on a particular stock map, so if you do 're-start' your account, all of your saved maps will be lost. Do let us know how you get on with PTF; I'm really interested in this myself!

With that said, the differences between a 2016 & 2017 M2 DME ROM is very minimal. But it's definitely a different ROM base. Any car produced after 2017-03 should see no difference in the DME after ISTEP update. M2 only has 2 ROM's

What hasn't been addressed is the second concern. It should be pretty easy for PTF to add an additional backup and restore option that backs up the newly updated DME so that it can be restored and locked before a service.

Hey Guys,
Quick question, will the software updates be any different for those of us with PRE LCI cars? Another Member said he just got his updated and his software now says "NBTevo_E16072A" I took a picture of my nav screen before I dropped it off at the dealership and it was "NBTevo_E16202A" I don't know how the numbers work if his is actually "updated" or maybe they only did a partial...so if ours is both PRE LCI (2016 M2) will we never have the "O" version of the update and ours will always be "E"? |

just Asked my service advisor if they could provide a picture of my updated Nav screen to check the software update version this is her response:
“The vehicles software is not read of that unit, that picture shows your navigation units software. Their is no other way I can show the vehicles update. If the vehicle is not tuned and your on down pipes if the vehicle throws a malfunction code that is definitely gonna be due to fuel cut since the vehicle is over boosting due to the excess amount boost cause by not having the back pressure of the cats that where originally on the vehicle. You can definitely over boost and blow the engine if your running down pipes and the vehicle fuel trims not being adjusted to that setting. The vehicle may act haywire due to the excess amount of fuel mixtures due to cats missing’” Your thoughts?! |
