Hoping to Tone Down My AA Exhaust - Any Suggestions?

Group,

I just acquired a beautiful 2021 LBB M2C with only 3K miles.
The car came with a downpipe back AA EL mid section & valved rear muffler.

The first time I started the car w/ the garage door closed I thought it was going to blow the windows out of the door.

Anyway, the system is definitely too loud on start up for my neighborhood and I expect black flags for sound at any of the tracks I frequent if I use either of the exhaust valve open sport modes.

So, what to to?

Will the AA resonators between their rear muffler & the mid pipe do the trick? They seem rather small.

What about a variable sound controller keeping the valves closed except when I want them open?

Lastly, I'm thinking of just hanging a stock can off the AA mid pipe

Thanks for your thoughts

A valve controller is the way to go. You could also code out the cold start function.

For me, Sport now sounds like Sport+ used to sound. Just a little deeper tone.

Startup is loud but not as loud as my son's G37S coupe.

This valve controller will work with an M2C. Super easy to use. Plugs into OBD port. You can choose valves open, valves closed by using the BC switch on your turn signal. Your last setting is automatically stored when you shut down the car. No affiliation but I do have one on my car with an MPE exhaust.

If you’re thinking about using a valve controller I’d recommend the CG VSC-2. I set it up with the homelink buttons. I have it set to default (automatic) at startup but you can order it to be closed at startup or as someone else said, code out the cold start function.

You said downpipe back, does that mean the downpipe is upgraded as well? If so, start by going back to stock downpipes.

Thanks for the feed back guys.
The car does still retain the stock downpipes, so all the extra sound is from the catless center section & rear exhaust.
An exhaust valve controller seems like an inexpensive option to try out.

Swap out the straight pipe section for the resonators, that will help quiet the system.

Not sure if the valve controllers will help during cold startups, though the cold startup roar can be coded out with a tune. If you're ecu is locked though, you're out of luck unless you clone your ecu and then tune.

Where do you tuck the thing so that it isn't noticeable, or is it? I assume under the floor mat but I would think it would cause a lump and/or noticeable wiring hanging down? Or do you hide it in a panel somewhere in the foot well?

Just run the cable under the edge of the floor mat and the actual controller ends up under the seat. You'll never know it's there.

Hi MS,

I Have the same setup on my 2020 M2C. I have the 2 resonators from AA if your interested in them. I never had them installed on my EL midpipe. I regulate my exhaust valves using the AK Motion Display and BM3.

On my previous M2 I ran High Flow Cats and that was 20% louder than what you have right now. I was not flagged for excessive sound at Devin's where they use a DB or at the 3 tracks I ran at.

Let me know your thoughts...

Could tune it and shut off cold start. It'll start up like a Prius

Just an update...

I've ordered a VSC-2 and will give it a try.
I ordered it set up for valves closed all the time, hence closed on cold start. When I push the remote button it'll revert to stock control, opening the exhaust valves when in the sport modes, which for me is fine.

I'll post another update when I receive the VSC-2

I would highly recommend getting resonators for the AA EL but that alone wont be enough. Try out bimmerlink, you can turn off all burbles and just hear the raw roar of the engine/exhaust, will cut down on a lot of the noise. Don’t need to tune or anything like that for bimmerlink.

Turning off cold start is the best option if you have a tune on the vehicle. usually removes unwanted valve rattle that you get on cold start as well.
