What's with the wheel arch trim?

Just took delivery of my car today and was surprised by some black wheel arch trims, which I've not seen on other cars? Presumably pretty easy to get rid of, but still!

Change in regulations (I think in Europe) that requires wheels to be more set inside the fender. Hopefully the just pop off.

Read about them on the CS.

Congratulations on the car as well, I'm taking delivery of my one in the coming weeks too

Well - I'm going to revise my above statement slightly. The trim is very easy to remove. The PPF under it is the biggest pain in the arse ever. The 2er German forums mention a gel adhesive remover - closest thing here is probably Goof Off, but I just pulled them off and then used some thinners and lots of elbow grease...

i could remove it with brake cleaner

on a side note: remove them quick. i had the arches on for aprox 1500km and they destroyed the paint (due to vibrations i guess)

Yeah I had to get them off right away (well ~100km) because I'm getting front half PPF done - I didn't want to use any super harsh chemicals though because I was worried about destroying the paint!

Rip these things off ASAP.
When I got PPF I didn't tell them to remove the arches so they reinstalled them afterwards.

Turns out they channel water under them if you drive through deep puddles.

This allows them to vibrate and stuff up your PPF by scrubbing it.

See pics.

100% these fender arches should be removed, our German counterparts knew of this issue very early on and advised that these arches would be very bad in the long run due to trapping debris. My arches already had a load of debris and my car had 17kms on removal.

Would not be surprised if cars that have left these arches on, experience marring and scratches on the paint underneath later on.

Agreed. Without PPF my paint would have been scratched up. It was full of dirt under those and like a 60 grit sandpaper.

Wow, that's crazy. Surprised BMW hasn't thought of a fix for this
