This will depend on the CS price tag. If it comes in under let's say $80K then that will hurt the value. Over that and it will have less impact. Sound reasonable?

He also says that M2 Competition gets bigger brakes (MSportbremse) and better seats (MSportsize) apart from the S55 with 9-10k EUR premium over the current model. Not much more.
The rest of the equipment stays more or less the same, as VIN decoders shown us + the new colours.

He's been very credible from my observations of that forum and was very much in line with what SCOTT26 and ynguldyn said in recent months.
Assuming BMW would make such a move to replace M2 LCI with M2 Competition - what would it do to the value of current M2s?
So the same guys that said it was DCT only?

I agree, it can be lighter! But as pointed above, the CSL/GTS hopefully accomplishes that to a better degree.

I don't think the M2 in any form will be as light as a Cayman, as BMWs pursuit of satisfying the luxo- craving masses is still in full effect.

Honestly, I prefer an M2 CS to a Cayman GT4, as the BMW has a more special badass criminal looking (IMO), is twin turbo, and has 4 seats. You can enjoy it every day, both on a race track and in a normal road. The Gt4 is a wonderful machine, but made for a specific use, more track oriented. And......I would not spend over 80/90K Euros or more, for a car that doesn't have A/C or the DAB radio. The M2, with the S55, I guess it will be better that the GT4 on a race track, with some M perf. mech adjustments.

I think on the track the Cayman GT4 would be more fun. On the streets the GT4 looks more exotic. Driving wise the M2 CS would be more practical on the streets and would still provide a lot of fun on the track too. With the M2 CS you can put the seat back and sit in a more relaxed way where in the Cayman you have to sit upright as the seat barely leans backwards. I owned a Cayman S for over 2 years. Cayman is a blast to drive but is also a blast on one's back if one is sitting in California traffic for over 30 minutes. That seating position is not too comfortable for long periods of time. With poor roads in parts of the Los Angeles area you have to use those Porsche brakes quite often to avoid messing up the front spoiler as the car sits so low. Depends on where one lives and where one drives.

Thanks.

So four new USA-spec VIN entries:
  • WBS2U7C51KVB08884 = M-DCT (SO+orange) (scheduled)
  • WBS2U7C53KVB08885 = M-DCT (HS) (scheduled)
  • WBS2U7C55KVB08886 = M-DCT (LBB) (scheduled)
  • WBS2U7C57KVB08887 = 6MT (BSM+orange) (scheduled)
Attempt to understand interior trim choice on the basis of those VINs:
  • standard: Int.t.f.bl.hi.gloss W.high T.fin.ch (code 4LU)
  • optional: Interior Trim Finishers Carbon Fibre (code 4MC)
  • optional in addition to either 4LU or 4MC: Ind.high-gloss Sa.ch.l.w.ext.con (code 7M9)
Attempt to understand the wheels choice on the basis of those VINs:
  • standard: 19" 437M wheels (code 2VZ: 19"lt/aly Wheels Do.sp. 437 M/mt Bl 19"m Lm Raed.doppelspei. 437 M/mb S)
  • optional: 19" Y-spoke 788M forged leightweight wheels (code 2QT 19"m Law.ý-sp.788 M For. Mt. 19"m Lmr Y-sp.788 M Ge. Mb) (LMR = Leichtmetallräder = leight(weight) metal wheels | Ge. = geschmiedet = For. = forged | Mt. and Mb = maybe Matte Black ?)
EDIT: Mb and Mt. = "Mischbereifung" = mixed tyres
Upholstery: Black Dakota Leather (we now also got the codes of all four combinations):
  • LCNL = plain leather + blue contrast stitching (Leder Dakota/schwarz Kontr.blau)
  • LCNZ = plain leather + orange contrast stitching (Leder Dakota/schw./kontr.orange)
  • MDB2 = perforated leather + blue contrast stitching (Led.dak.des.perf.schwarz/blau)
  • MDOE = perforated leather + orange contrast stitching (Led.dak.des.perf.schwarz/orange)
Updated post #4 and, hence, also post #1 of this thread.

Best source of that is spy photos. If there are no readable sidewall markings in any of the photos, the photographers are not doing their jobs.

I'd bet:
437M with MPSS/MPS4S - standard
788M with MPSC2 - as a track oriented option

That would be prefect.

IMO, M Gmbh is going a little crazy with 3 tiers of M on a given platform... Audi only does two, plus the fluffball base car.

OTOH, when BMW have softened / weakened the sportiness of their entire line by trying to beat Lexus at the boring old person car game... maybe the craziness from M is justified?
Based on these rumors, the M2 CS would fit my needs very well. I would immediately buy a car that looks like the M2, has the S55, and has its suspension, brakes, etc. up-rated and slightly more sporty than a normal M2. I don't need a track car or a stripped out interior. In fact, the only change I want in the interior is the M3 ZCP front seats.

A LOT of M car buyers, especially here in Southern California, buy the M car because it's expensive, because it has very flashy styling, and because it has a name that catches people's ears when you tell them what you drive (M3 sounds so much cooler than 340i, tons of people who don't care about cars know what an M3 is) so M gmbh has made these cars into very, very excellent everyday cars. In my opinion, this leaves plenty of room for a CS model to have more track-focused suspension, brakes, more power, etc. and a CSL that takes this a few steps further with serious weight reduction.

The M4 CS has me a little worried, that car is kind of the opposite of what I had hoped for: A stock M4 with a stripped down interior (with mostly stock suspension, brakes, diff, etc. aside from reprogramming) doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me.

I'd be surprised if they put it out with the same output as the M4.
Different segment. Don't treat the CS like a regular M. It is more track focus and will not be for everyone's taste.

People want a more luxurious car will still buy the M4 with the ZCP option ticked. I think pricing wise it will not be too different from a regular M3. So expect a similar engine output.

Exactly, which is why the M4 – which is 8" longer than the M2 but weighs the same – is so impressive.

What did they do the M4 to offset all the extra weight it should have gained by being 8" longer?

If it takes the place of the base M2 we might as well drive our pre CS M2s into a river, because that's about how much they're going to be worth.

Okay, you go first....

I hate to say this, but I am almost hoping for a higher CS price tag for this reason. And also I don't want it to be too tempting. Plus, I already started saving for the CSL anyway.

I'll probably get burned at the stake but I prefer the power delivery of my N55 in my M2 vs the S55 in my F80. F80 still feels like it's laggy and doesn't make crazy power until 4k+. I use my cars mostly on the street and the N55 feels more responsive off idle to me.

Yea I know what you mean. If it's very limited or just priced a lot higher it will protect the value of the N55 M2. Though I feel bad for selfishly wanting to protect the value of the M2 at the expense of others. The best thing for me would be if the CS was priced reasonably low but only came as a DCT because you know... no one wants to buy the DCT so they wouldn't all be sold out immediately. They would just be sitting on lots and I could actually find one to buy without markup!

Seriously though California trade in is not favorable for taxes so I should not be buying anything new anyway. I should just hope the M2 I have is reliable and lasts for many miles! I really do like the idea of having the very best (daily drivable) version of it though. Not sure BMW is going to make cars like this ever after this gen is phased out.

What this says to me is that the rear seats will not be split folding, meaning they are going for some weight reduction but without losing too much of the functionality. Right in line with what M says their plans are for the CS.

M = Street car
CS = Street car that can track
CSL = Track car that can street
