Couple of points to note when taking a closer look at those USA-spec VINs:
manual Transmission = stock | M-DCT = optional (option code 2MK)

optional M Sports Seat (option code 712)

So confirmation of a MT and upgraded seats?

Well, it's at least a confirmation that BMW M is testing also 6MT and "M Sports Seat" (option code 712) inside an M2 car with S55 engine. No guarantee that it will make it to production, but reasonably quite likely.

If the seats inside the M4 CS got option code 712 (I don't know) and if the M4 CS is supposed to show the way for the M2 CS:

Could the sportseats actually be standard since a lot of the options that we see on the options list are indeed standard ??

Interesting that there is no option for folding rear headrest. This leads towards the lightweight seats all round now a la F8X or another version other than 1/2/3/4 series seats.

Maybe someone can help break down the options offerings for me. These two cars make it look like an LCI and a CS.

One car has the sportbrake option available, and the other does not. One also looks like there are more creature comfort options, but the one with sportbrake option does not.

Edit: I may have been interpreting the options section incorrectly. I thought it was listing all available options, but is it just the installed options?

That would explain the non folding headrests option for back seats right...
And no armrest?

Those USA-spec VINs indicate two types of seats:
  • 481 Sport Seats F Driver/front Passenger (Sportsitze Fuer Fahrer/beifahrer)
  • 712 M Sports Seat (M Sportsitze)
Test mules either have 481 in the list of standard equipment (and no 712) or 712 in the options list (and no 481).

True that those VINs all mention Dakota Leather as upholstery.

Attempt to understand the wheels choice on the basis of those USA-spec "M2 Competition" VINs:
  • standard: 19" 437M wheels (code 2VZ: 19"lt/aly Wheels Do.sp. 437 M/mt Bl 19"m Lm Raed.doppelspei. 437 M/mb S)
  • optional: 19" Y-spoke 788M forged leightweight wheels (code 2QT 19"m Law.ý-sp.788 M For. Mt. 19"m Lmr Y-sp.788 M Ge. Mb) (LMR = Leichtmetallräder = leight(weight) metal wheels | Ge. = geschmiedet = For. = forged | Mt. and Mb = maybe Matte Black ?)
EDIT: Mb and Mt. = "Mischbereifung" = mixed tyres
How do we know ? Because the 788M wheels are indicated in this one (see option 2QT):

Personally I hope this 788M will resemble more like the 1M/E92 M3 Competition wheels.

Really really hope the wheel option is similar to the E46 M3 CSL wheels or the BMW 1M wheels.
