Is there even going to be a CSL version of this car? Kind of assumed this is it in regards to the F87 line?

Don't think there is a CSL version. Probably not until the G Series so maybe around 2025. G87 M2 is not coming until 2023 so still a while away.

Carbon fiber parts look cool, I'm not gonna lie, but to me they're not worth spending a nice chunk of change unless you're actually competing at the racetrack. M2 CS is great though for (rich) people who want a decked out M2 with more power that they can just drive off the lot. I wonder if the M2 CS will have the same calibrations as M4 CS in terms of traction, steering, and differential.

So how much weight reduction does the M2 CS have from the M2 C?

Why is this top secret? This is the main goal and I doubt the BMW shaved off more than 60 lbs.

On other note I was reading my SAE Automotive Engineering Magazine and they mention the 4th gen Wrangler weighs 92 kg (203 lb) less compared to the previous generation. This is awesome.

So Jeep can shave off 203 lbs on a non performance vehicle and BMW cannot on their performance vehicle were weight really matters?? And no 60 lbs is not a huge weight reduction for a $20k price jump.

The formula of this M2 CS is, in some ways, of reminiscent of the E92 M3 Lime Rock Park Edition.
In fact, even some of the reactions and discussions sound like some of the same reactions about the M3 LRP.

Both were released towards the end of their respective chassis' production runs and decked out with some goodies from the existing BMW parts bin, be M Performance parts or upgrades from an already existing model.

Both don't claim any 'significant' performance or weight improvements, both limited production numbers (i.e., 'special' editions).

The M2 CS compared to the M3 LRP has a slight edge in having a tad more specific equipment (mainly on the interior and the hood/bonnet), but overall, it's not going to provide a different driving experience from the M2 Competition.

The main thing to understand about these types of special editions from BMW is that they were not designed to be lightweight track specials.
BMW reserves that honor for the likes of the CSL and GTS monikers.

To the point of the detractors, the price tag and the nomenclature "CS (i.e., Competition Sport)" would naturally set the expectation that this would be a special class of vehicle, performance-wise and experience-wise and then when it isn't, it's understandable that it can be underwhelming or of no value to most.

That being said, where this type of car shines, be it the M2 CS or the M3 LRP, is for those who have no intention to modify the car but want a little extra versus the standard car.
It's a great showcase version to look at and enjoy out of the box, kind of like a fully furnished model-home except in automotive form, for fans of the respective chassis that this special-treatment is applied to.
So I could definitely see an F87 fanatic who intends to appreciate and keep the F87 in its original form, thoroughly enjoy ownership of the M2 CS for many years to come.

On the flip side, I could also picture some [affluent] urban fuckbois, the "bro check out my carbon fiber" type, purchasing this car for the purposes hardparking.

For everyone else, an M2 C should do just fine.

While that makes sense to a degree, the M2CS and 1M are not the same thing. The 1M was a huge step above the 135 with it's fenders, suspension, steering, brakes, wheels, etc. Many of these parts were not available through the M performance catalog, and they made the car not only look drastically different, but drive/feel substantially different. In addition, for everything you got, it was a minimal up charge vs a 135i at the time. Combined with extremely low volume, it's obvious why 1M's have retained so much value in relation to their original MSRP (regardless of how good or bad they were).

All information thus far seems to suggest the M2CS incremental change over the M2C will be less, while the price jump will be more (in comparison to 135i vs 1M). The M2CS will be an awesome car, but there is never a guarantee on what a car will "trade at" in the future. Having said that, I tend to believe the M2CS will do very well in terms of resale value.
