Then compare 1M to a M2CS for your weekend car or DD? I know what I'd want.

We know there were 5823 OG M2s sold in the US for MY 2016-2018, but I guess we have to wait until the end of production to find out 2019-2021 M2C numbers. |

From a speed perspective an M2c (and CS) are faster no doubt. But from a visceral and fun to drive perspective a modded 135i with the hydraulic steering is hard to beat. With that said I have not owned a 135/1M but did have an E9x 335is with same engine/MT. It definitely needed mods but it was still very dun to drive. |

Two completely different cars today. One is basically a collectors item and is appreciating in value and one is a true M car that should be daily driven.
If you have an extra $60K+, that's the lens you would have to look through. I think it would be dope to daily a 1M but that's above my paygrade.

I like the way the M2s look over the 1M personally. I think the 1 series is a cool car, but the lines of the 2 series does it for me.

the 2 series does seem evolved... but styling is subjective and does change over years. I used to hate how the e30 looked. then I loved it. then I was impartial. now I love it again.

I think the 1-series had a slightly weird looking front end. The headlights and the grille just dont quite do it for me.
The rear fender flares on the 1M are cooler though, the flares we get on the M2C are too tall, IMHO. I'd like it better if they stayed closer to the wheels, like they do on the 1M. The 1M looks slightly more aggressive as a result, though the M2 is what i'd call prettier. |

Despite being everything I would want in a car, the 1M never really grabbed my heart like it probably should have. Possibly, because it came out during the time period I was mainlining the toxic drug P-car.
As for which I would choose now. The M2C, hands down. The M2C is just the best single solution car for me south of 100k. If I was going to go with a classic BMW for 60k there are other cars that hold my heart more than the 1M. |

Stock vs stock
M2C The N54 in the 1M is very pedestrian...feels like a Toyota V6 Camry, no motorsports feel at all...however it all changes once it's on stage 1+ intercooler, the driving experience is more ferocious than a stock M2C, even though it is still slower In terms of reliability, the M2C wins hands down In terms of man and machine connection, the 1M wins hands down. In comparison, the M2C feels like sex with an extra layer |

1M vs M2C
Having had an e30M3, an e36M3, an e46M3 a 1M and now an M2C I think I miss my 1M more than any of my other M cars. My 1M was a daily driver with over 95k miles and as a club instructor it saw quite a few days on the track.
The M2C is way more refined and potent than my 1M but not as visceral. The M2C feels much bigger and heavier and the steering is not nearly as communicative. Also way more thumbs up in the 1M. Still connecting with the M2C but will always have a soft spot for the 1M.. |

The 1M goes for around same money as the OG M2 in OZ. I like that the 1M is rarer & have driven a couple but still prefer the M2 overall.
Never been someone that buys a car with the idea of an investment & I've had/have some pretty rare stuff, for me it's all about buying the right car, modifying it & enjoying it as intended both on & off track. Then when something better comes along (as it invariably always does) I move on.

I totally get that. and its valid. but if you wanted to, the 1M is completely livable and reliable. at least in my experience I have actually owned 2 1Ms in my day and both were and are great. even daily. actually better then more you drive it

Despite having spent the last 8 years in BMW's, I'd still have issues trusting them as my only car at higher mileage. Even with the pandemic, I've put 16.6k miles on my M2C since Sept 2018. Add that to whatever mileage a 1M would have been at the time, and it gets a bit interesting to think about. With the M2C after that amount of time, I'm still in the "car breaks, drop off at dealer, drive away in loaner till it's fixed, pick it up and likely pay nothing" period. That's worth something when you only have one car.

lol no chance i’d own a 1M over an M2C if that’s the only car. Also lol at buying the 1M then keeping it in the garage forever trying to maintain it’s value. You can just buy stock and do much better with today’s market than you will with an appreciating “asset” such as the 1M.
