Help - IAT Sensor group error, sensor short, air mass too high
So I was randomly checking for codes on my n55 m2 and I see
102001 air mass too high 108001 intake air temp sensor short 108932 IAT group sensor error. I'm not getting a CEL or noticing anything out of the ordinary when I drive the car. These codes came back after clearing. I am on BM3 ACN stage 1 tune. I do have an aftermarket charge pipe and intercooler. I did recently replace cabin and engine air filters with oem. Looked at MAF sensor on intake and it looked clean to me? The TMAP sensor connection seems solid but have not disconnected and looked at it yet. Looking at values with BimmerLink the IAT is reading something and putting out values that make some sense to me. They go down when driving and up when idling. Values seemed kind of low but it was 45 degrees out and and the upgraded intercooler could explain that. Last I checked values it was a 70+ day. Warranty is up today so that's fun. Should I try cleaning the sensors with MAF sensor cleaner? Does the IAT readings imply it's the MAF? Filter not sealed when I changed it? Is there a MAF value I should keep an eye on next time I start the car? Last edited by akkando; 01-13-2021 at 09:02 PM.. |

I guess there is a second TMAP on the back of the intake manifold too. Could that be the issue here? Seems less likely since I don't think that's been touched since new.
I can take logs. Anything to look for to narrow down the issue? |

have you ever had a JB4 on? can you see when those codes were set and if they are "existant" or not?
Air mass is _mostly_ a tuner code.. unless corresponds with lean/rich codes. The MAP sensor short i'd be concerned about.

Not sure if I can see when codes were set, but I believe they are shown to be active codes. I will check again later today with my new scanner. |

Try looking and securing your intake/intake piping as well. Mine looked like it was tightened well, but I guess it wasn't (an indy shop took it off and put back on my intake prior). I swapped intakes a little while afterwards and in the process, I guess I tightened the air box piping up well again.. I had the same air mass too high fault you had and that cleared after I swapped intakes. Never popped up again.

Slight update. After I disconnected and reconnected the tmap on the charge pipe and fully charged the battery I tried my new expensive Foxwell scanner for the first time. It only reported codes for ASD (its off) and some other code ZGM flexray sync failure. Read that can happen if you try use a diagnoses tool on the car with ignition on and engine off.
Didn't get a chance to try BimmerLink again to read codes, but I was surprised the Foxwell came up empty handed here. I guess it's useful for some stuff but if it can't properly diagnose I'll probably see if Amazon will take it back. |

I'm no longer getting this error. Unsure why. I disconnected and reconnected the tmap sensor at the charge pipe, everything looked normal to me. Then I flashed the most recent bm3 tune which clears codes I think. Went for a drive with some hard pulls and checked codes with BimmerLink . The 3 codes for the sensor and air mass too high are gone. I'll check again after some more miles.

I’m dealing with the exact same codes on my 2018 N55 M2, were you able to ever figure out what was causing them? I’d really appreciate the feedback as I haven’t been able to figure this out for months now.
