Seat Belt retainer

So I have owned my 2021 M2C for two weeks and that little scrap of overhand they call a seat belt holder is driving me nuts. I seems like it would be an easy fix by just extend that lousy piece of plastic. So is anyone making one yet? Are we all just sucking it up or has someone come up with a better solution? Any plastic injector folks out there?

wait, you have a seat belt retainer? I thought that was the lever to let rear passenger move the seat up....

afaik there is nothing to hold the seat belt. it's irritating as fuck. my e46 doesn't have one either.

I don’t use mine, just reach around and grab the belt.

Yes, as HFW shows, the notch at the end of the lever is for the seat belt to be inserted. Only issue is that it has to be done every time.

I am pretty tall and my seating position is pretty far back but I can barely reach the belt unless I remember to set it in the little plastic clip. Seems hokey to me as well.

That seatbelt holder is such a dumb design. If you were to use it all the time it would probably fray the seatbelt because it is sharp plastic.

Man. I kinda wish we had like a bunch of videos of peoples methodology here. I’m short (5’8”) and have my seat fairly upright and far forward but I’ve never even thought about the seatbelt being hard to reach. I just reach over and grab it. But there’s clearly something I do, or a way I’m positioned that makes it easier or something. Or maybe I’m just not bothered by the reach? Flexibility? Different arm lengths? Not invalidating your experience at all mind you, just curious how different people could experience the same thing so differently.

Edit: Could be because i have smallish hands. I reach with my left hand DOWN and squeeze it between the door and the seat to grab the seatbelt usually by the buckle its self.

Must be a function of height and seat position. I've never put any thought into where I place my seat belt when taking it off. Likewise, it's muscle memory when I get into the car to reach back and grab the seat belt with ease. Never have I thought "gee this is hard to reach".

No, its the same piece as the lever. The plastic just isn't totally flush with the seat on one side.

I know it is there, but I keep forgetting to place the belt there when I leave the car...

One thing that helps me and due to a tight garage is back the seat up a bit before I exit. I don't have to open the door as wide to enter or exit and its an easier reach to the belt when getting back in. That also allows me to fasten the belt and then move the seat forward to get the belt tighter. In short the need to move the seat back to exit is a win win, with minimal effort.

I don't claim to have originated this but it works great for me - I set seat memory 1 to my driving position and memory 2 fully back.

You can just code your seat for comfort access (or whatever it’s called) where it goes back automatically when you turn car both off and on.

I've just gotten used to grabing the seatbelt from the bottom with my left hand. if that makes sense.

I use mine all the time, no issues. Sometimes it falls back but I just learned to reach underhand to grab the belt. Certainly easier than reaching over the shoulder.

I moved the plastic piece (on the seatbelt itself below the buckle) up so the buckle doesn’t slide all the way down and keeps it from slamming against the door but a better holder would be nice. I’ll prob look into setting up comfort access eventually.
