I love seeing everything listed like this. We attacked our upgrades from different directions and this helps me see what I'm missing. Highest remaining on my list are the Carbahn related upgrades and tune.

Needs a cherry on top. Just kidding! Man that's a LOT of mods to a new car. Should be awesome though.

how do you like the Carbahn tune, curious how much it changes the power of the car as compared to Stock by a seat of the pants measurement. That is the one upgrade I am thinking about doing...

given it's not a track oriented car, why add heat exchanger, baffled oil pan, pads and such of it's going to be a "date night" purposeful car? lots of cool unique mods to your car though. share some pics. enjoy!

Honest answer?

It's a completely different car.

Full disclosure-- I "corrected" the cooling system by adding a larger heat exchanger and I added the M3/M4 snorkels that connect to the truncated OEM snorkels. Additionally, we sealed the open holes on the OEM snorkels that were sucking in hot air from the engine bay, so now I'm only pulling in cold air from 90-degrees behind the kidney grills (before the radiators/exchangers). The Carbahn guys thought I was "really on to something" with that setup.

But now? the car is completely docile driving it sedately-- but when you hammer the throttle? At high rpm's, the DSC light will flash at least through third gear-- I haven't been able to find anywhere to get to high rpm's in fourth, so I have no idea if that would continue-- I haven't had the time nor the stupidity to find somewhere to turn off the DSC completely and see what happens at WOT. I'm also at 6000', so I was more than a little surprised at how much power the beast has now.

I think I'll be replacing my tires in about 5000 miles, and will go with 255/275 PS4S's with possibly spacers to see if that'll help keep the tires from wanting to spin off the rims-- right now, with DSC off, I can spin the rears like there's no tomorrow with little effort-- above about 4000 rpm, things get..... interesting.

The heat exchanger and M3/M4 intakes were added because a) they weren't all that expensive and b) it sort if irritated me that BMW had "crippled" the car-- besides, I figured that at 6000' (losing 2.5% of hp per 1000'), having cold air wouldn't be a bad thing.

The butt-dyno says I wasn't wrong. It pulls like a freight train.

Didn't do a baffled oil pan-- just an oil catch can.

Pads are simply "on the list" for when I have to replace pads.

I *do* plan on tracking it at a few HPDE's if and when the tracks here ever reopen, but not in a competitive way-- just to go out and have fun.

Oh-- I forgot to mention: When I picked up the car after the tune and intake work, I let my buddy drive the car from Carbahn back to East Bay (Vacaville) where he lives. He's pretty heavy into Spec Miata in SCCA, with a few other full-on race cars that he races in various classes.

His direct quote? "This thing's a BEAST!"

If I were in US I'd def try the Richland wheels. Seems good quality and bang for buck.

Full screen CarPlay is worth it.

I'm a visual person and photos help me see what people are talking about.

Case in point:

OP: I see the reference to the Bavsound equipment. Have you had experience with this equipment before and is it a good improvement over the HK system? First time I've come across this particular manufacturer. Thanks!!!

They're the metal panels that fit underneath the interior trim just below the rear side windows-- there's a large hole there in the sheet metal.

I haven't installed them yet as I haven't gotten around to figuring out how to take the trim pieces apart without damaging them.

I got the speakers and haven't installed them yet for lack of time and warm days. The amp is on pre-order and won't be here until March. BavSound has a bunch of video's posted on how to do the job-- I just need to find a warm day where I'm a) home and b) don't have anything on the "Honey-do" list-- and those days are exceedingly rare.

I really need to find a fellow enthusiast in Denver who likes to take cars apart so there can be bonding with wrenching with frosty adult beverages!

If my honey-do list is also empty, I'm game to lend a hand!

If I were in your area that would be great! Thanks for the response. Have you installed Bavsound products on other vehicles before? If so, is the sound quality an improvement?

Nope! This is my first BMW since my 2005 e46 M3 coupe (which I STILL regret selling to a buddy).

I gutted that system, but it was a nightmare since BMW used this weirdo differential balanced ground system with their head units (I kept the OEM headhunt since I had a V1 display running on it with a StealthOne adapter)-- I eventually had to have Zapco make a custom interface to make the headhunt work with their amps.

This time around, I'm just letting the pro's figure it out. BavSound has a very good reputation, and they've been great to talk to. I *really* need to get the speakers and the soundproofing installed on the car!

I also have the Carbahn tune and can tell you that moving to PS4S even 10mm wider than stock won’t significantly curtail wheel spin. It’s all part of the fun though
