Anybody Running a Double Stagger?

So I'm trying to plan out a track wheel set for my M2C to purchase later this year, and since I have the AP Racing brakes, have been considering a double staggered setup (18" Front, 19" Rear). If I'm going to be staggered width wise, might as well do it rim size too, right?

It seems like there's merit to keeping the rear sidewall shorter (and stiffer) for stability from what I've read about other vehicles (M3/4CS and 911) coming stock with a double-staggered setup.

Current tire choices aside (main reason I've seen for people advocating for 18" all around instead), has anyone else looked into this?

Only downside I can see would be tire availability in 19. Straight 18's would be better IMO.

I looked at the 18/19 option and concluded the tire options and the fact that I still might need to run 4 18's made my decision easier.

When my current 265/35/18 & 295/35/18 Yoko A052's wear out. I'm going to get a pair of the SM-10 18x11's to go bigger tham my current 18x10's and run 295/30 or 305/35's on them. The best tire I could find that fits my HPDE and adhesion is the Toyo RR. 2nd choice is the Nitto NT-01's.

I put the AP front brake kit on last year, and my performance shop was really happy because we could now do 18" wheels for the track setup. They highly recommended a 275/35/18 square setup on RE71R's, which is what I am going with. I chose the Titan T-S5 18x9.5 for the wheels.

275/35/18 and 295/30/19 could work if you can find tires in those sizes. The front to back diameter difference is the same as stock, sidewalls are 3.8 and 3.5" respectively which is comparable to stock.

Am considering Yoko 265/35/18, 295/3518 as my next set of tires after running Dunlop Dirrezza 111's in 255/35/18, 285/30/18. How did you like them for the track?

How did you like the Yoko's? Any problems with rubbing with 265/35/18, 295/3518?

Hey Chief,

The 265's up front are not a problem at all.

Some tire math:

Per many on the board the 265/35/19's can rub when new under full compression until the liner is worn down a tad.

Using the P4S as a barometer;

OEM front is 245/35/19 SW-9.8" & Dia=25.8"

265/35/19 is SW=10.7 & Dia=26.3

So we know that 26.3" is a tad to tall for the wheel wells.

Now when we move to 18's the world opens up for sizing
"
265/35/18 is SW=10.7 & Dia=25.3"

That's a full inch less in diameter.. No rubbing!!!

You can even fit the 275/35/18's -SW=10.9 & Dia=25.6

My 295/35/18 Yoko's will rub the inside of the fender under full compression.

Rear info:

Stock 265/35/19's-SW=10.7" & Dia=26.3"

Yoko 295/35/18's-SW=11.8" & Dia=26.2"

Yoko 295/30/18's- SW=11.9" & Dia=25.1

That's easy to fix by modifying the tab back there and also running 295/30/18.

So my street setup is going to be 265/30/19F and 295/30/19R on the stock rims.

My track setup will be a 275/35/18 on a 10" Apex SM-10 & 295/30/18 on 10.5 or 11" SM-10's. Using Toyo RR's

I wanted to go to the 305's but have decided its to much of a hassle to play around with fender rolling & camber related issues. The 305's have a 35 aspect ratio and that makes fitting them much more of an issue not just width wise but in diameter.

The specs on the RR's:

295/30's-SW=11.8 Dia=25.0"
305/35's- SW=12.3" & Dia=26.4"

I knew before I even ordered the car I was going to need to put a smaller BBK on at least the fronts so I could work with more brands and sizes.

We are still wicked limited on 19's for either track or street..

Let me know how the 10 Apex fits up front. I'm planning on moving to a square setup on 10's and 275/35/18 NT-01's. Currently run a staggered setup but want to dial out some understeer.

I have a ton of room up front to run with as large as a 285/30/18.

TC Kline C/O's and around 3.5 Neg camber plus Apex's 12MM spacers.

Per APEX website:

Front & Rear: 18x10" ET33 with 275/35-18 tires
Won't fit M2 Competition with 2NH brake package.
Available in EC-7 and SM-10 designs only.
At least 10mm front spacers required for suspension clearance.
Requires at least 3.5 degrees of front negative camber.
285/30-18 tires may also be used.
265/35-18 tires (compounds that run wide) may also be used.

If I decide to try the square setup on the car I will use the 285/30 BFG R1's.

My favorite R compound tire

When you say " modifying the tab back there", what do you mean? I am running Ohlins lowered 1/2" in the rear, will I have to do anything to run the 295/30/18 Yokohama back there? Just want to be sure before I order them. Just finished my suspension install and can't wait to get it on track.

There’s a seam/tab where the rear bumper meets the quarter panel that may need to be ground back for clearance. You can feel it if you reach in the wheel well and feel in that vicinity.

Can’t comment on the 295/30 A052 and whether it’ll require clearancing. I hope not as I intend to try 265/295 A052s at some point this year and would prefer not to.

Thanks, I'll take a look today. I wish they made AO52 in 285/30/18, I would just go with those to play it safe. I understand these tires run wide. in the end may have to look at other 200 tread wear tires.

The 295/30/18's will fit fine if your rims have a proper offset.

I have a 40 offset. Will that be enough?

I have 18x10's with a 33 offset.

So yes you should be fine for outside clearance. Inside clearance will be interesting but if needed a 5MM spacer would fix that..
