This is been why i've been almost offended by the call that MB is the signature feature of this car. MB is a color that BMW used to make the X1 seem cool. Alpine White and Black Sapphire Metallic are legendary BMW colors, staples of the brand. Hockenheim Silver was a color specifically developed for the M2C/CS. Unpopular opinion, and not trying to turn this into an MB thread, but it seems like BMW used that color to say "we need a color for people that want to be easily spotted in their 85k M2".

Black Sapphire has become the new Diamantschwarz Metallic, its a classic.

Whilst I respect your views, whether you like it or not, MB is the launch colour for the M2CS.

Signature or not, it is what it is, M2CS was launched in the LA Motor Show in MB - there were no other colours, just MB.

BSM is undoubtedly an enduring colour but you see it on dozens of different series of cars from BMW.

HS is a colour developed for M2C as you've pointed out, and also used in M2CS as one of only four options available. It is likely to be used again especially as an individual colour.

There should be no reason to take offence for reading MB was the official, and exclusive colour for the M2CS (in the F87 range) because that is a fact, it was the launch colour of the car irrespective of personal opinions; yours or mine.

When it comes to offensive, "we need a color for people that want to be easily spotted in their 85k M2", is out of character, given most M2 CS orders came in MB and your assertion suggests they are all potentially vulgar and ego driven people just because you prefer BSM.

Enjoy the ride in whatever colour pleases you.

I would recommend checking out both in person because it looks much different in person and you'll know when ya see it.
I can tell you that the MB is really close to Nogaro but MB just a smidge lighter. I have both right now, one parked behind the other.

Dedicated BMW paint codes thread (sticky in the Bimmerpost "General BMW News and Cars Discussion" forum): see here.

AFAIK Black Sapphire Metallic (BMW paint code 475) was introduced in 2001 (see here).

So it's celebrating two decades this year.

Carbon black, Citrine Black or maybe Ruby Black are more my favs. Unfortunately, again anything out of the norm ain’t a goer for 1 or 2 series cars.

History of F87 BMW M2 colors (original M2, M2 LCI, M2 Competition and M2 CS):
  • Alpine White (300): here (since 1995)
    -> OG M2, M2 LCI, M2C and M2 CS
  • Black Sapphire Metallic (475): here (since 2001)
    -> OG M2, M2 LCI, M2C and M2 CS
  • Mineral Grey Metallic (B39): here (since 2013)
    -> OG M2 and M2 LCI
  • Long Beach Blue Metallic (C16): here (since 2015)
    -> OG M2, M2 LCI and M2C
  • Sunset Orange Metallic (C1X): here (since 2018)
    -> M2C
  • Hockenheim Silver Metallic (C33): here (since 2018)
    -> M2C and M2 CS
  • Misano Blue Metallic (C1D): here (since 2018)
    -> M2 CS
So far, of these seven BMW colors:
  • HS is the most exclusive one: not available on any other car than the M2C and M2 CS;
  • AW is the only non-metallic color.

I beg to differ; HS is exclusive to M range of vehicles according to BMW which means any M, not just M2C/CS

The only exclusive colour on an M2CS is the one-of in Birch Green, not exclusive in the way of one colour one vehicle range, but in the way of one colour, one vehicle.

For example this one:

Pretty sure I had Diamond Schwarz metallic on my 2 e36 cars and plain old Schwarz on my e30. Plain old Schwarz was serious work. Diamond less so, but still introduced paranoia when I drove through a puddle. That's why black, though I love it, is no longer for me.

So I referred to the M2 series production colors and not to BMW Individual on other BMW / BMW M cars or special on-demand M2 paint jobs (such as the Austin Yellow Metallic OG M2, the San Marino Blue Metallic M2C, two Frozen Orange M2C, a Frozen Dark Grey M2C, the Birch Green M2 CS).

As much as I love the aggressiveness in design and carbon bits, I'm not flashy and like how BSM disguises the car a bit more until you really look at it or get up close.
