Are extended warranties worth it?

I am taking an ED at the end of the month and have been offered the below extended BMW warranties that most closely match my intended use and am considering them.

1. Tires and rims-$2151 for 5 years. (This needs to be decided on by tomorrow)
2. 7 year/70,000 mile most comprehensive extended warranty contract-$5,920
3. 6 year/ 100,000 mile extended service contract- Covers wear items including brakes, rotors, clutch $ 4,749.

I can elect the extended warranty and service contracts anytime befor the factory ones expire but the price goes up after 10,000 miles and is not guaranteed. I am fairly certain I will delay deciding on those warranties but need to decide on tires and rims. It covers up to 2 rims and 2 tires each year but not wear. I've owned 3 series for almost 20 years (not an exact comparison) and I have gone through 2 rims and 2 tires so if the experience is the same it doesn't seem like its worth it. Has anyone else considered these options? Thanks

How often have you spent $2,500+ on tires and rims over the course of 5 years? You can basically buy a full new set of tires and wheels.

As for the warranty, you can always buy it later on if you decide to keep the car longer. I can buy additional warranty for mine anytime within the first four years.

As long as your original warranty is still in effect you can extend it any time you want, don't do it now. For tires / rims you can get a tire warranty from your local tire shop (i.e. Discount Tire) for under $200 and self insure the rims.

Personally I'd rather get wheels repaired to my satisfaction at a specialist who know what they're doing and I haven't had a tyre go for years so I wouldn't pay the outlay. You can always put an amount you're comfortable with away each month to cover this and if you don't need to use it..hey its a bonus.

7yr extended warranty...Are you going to keep the car this long ?
Likewise the 5yr servicing.

I had a similar question. I have historically purchased extended warranties a year or two AFTER purchase. I also do not like to roll these costs into a loan... The wheel/tire packages are almost always not worth the cost.

My question: Is there a defacto community dealership that offers competitive pricing on extended warranties and/or service contracts? Does BMW allow these to be purchased at any authorized dealer?
