Why such a variation? This process seems so random, and different depending on dealer/state/country. |

Each dealer gets allotted a number of spots per model based on their sales volume. So a dealer who sells 5 M2Cs a month will obviously have more spots than one who sells 1. And if there are no special orders against these, the dealer will just configure it themselves so it will go into production. If a dealer has an allocation that is about to enter production, and you walk in to order one, then can customize it for you. |

The trackers are actually very accurate. The only reason why people assume otherwise is because they don't quite understand how production works.
These cars can - and often do - flip from "scheduled" to "final assembly" in a single day. That's literally how long it takes to produce this car. Mine did exactly that. Paint booth and other assembly steps take hours, not days. You will almost certainly "miss them". The longest wait times are between "scheduled > production begins" and "carrier assignment > port", and obviously "port > dealer" assuming that you're not doing ED. |

Dealer had one ordered so I put deposit on it July 3 and sat at the port. “In Transit” as of July 26. Pacing, waiting, researching, ordering stuff for her...

To all that answered my question, thanks for explaining the process. It definitely makes more sense to me now. I guess at this point, I am just stuck in the waiting game. At least I know it's in the dealers Auto Bank, and it will get started as soon as they get the allocation. Hopefully the salesman was somewhat accurate with the mid-September build date, so the wait is not too bad.

Just wanted to say that I joined the club too!! Thanks to everyone for their help!
Ordered a 2021 M2C as of 7/30! Super excited, now I get to stare at the tracker like everyone else.. I don’t want to hijack the thread too much, but was reading about the blue brake calipers... is there a difference between blue and grey? Mine on the tracker also says blue as well, but it’s just that list of ‘standard’ features |

If you walked in to the BMW dealer on 7/30, how are you able to track already? Did they give you a production# or VIN, if so, how so quickly? Did you maybe spec a car that they already had an allocation for, and is being built already? Sorry for all the questions, it's just that it's frustrating for me because I placed the order on 6/18, and all I got so far, is a car that's put in the Auto Bank, and a build sheet as of now. I'm anxiously still waiting for info so I can track the car on the online tracker. |

That's how I understood it, and expected to wait a little more, so I was surprised when people here "ordered", and had a production# within the week. Now I understand, thanks!

Mine entered production 07/29 but tracker does not show progress step by step , was that the same for you too till you saw production completed?

My car has been sitting in "PRODUCTION BEGINS" for almost 2 weeks on the website. If you dial the BMW Genius 1-844-443-6487, you get more details. I was able to find out that it will be done with production on Aug 13. (For reference, the dealer placed my order on July 24.)

Its been in "Production Begins" since around Aug 3rd. I did get the VIN only a few days after placing the order though. Guessing theyre going to build the car in the next 1-2 days. |
