M Performance Suspension rear adjuster?

Just to confirm the M Performance Suspension rear adjuster goes on top of the rear spring not the bottom?

Remember to remove the steel cup that the upper spring seat sits in before trying to fit it.

Yes, as above, it goes at the top and tap out the black metal cup the oe spring fits in first. Id suggest setting the adjuster to max lowering on the rear as its quite modest lowering compared with the front.

It turns out even for a professional with experience and the BMW M Performance Coilover Retrofit Kit installation instructions that it's not crystal clear that the and rear cups need to be removed.

Thank you everyone for your help!

Some pictures.
  1. Front coilover OOTB with the adjusters set way too high before reattaching the sway bar link
  2. Rear spring with cup? (need to double check that)
  3. Rear spring cup removed

Im really confused;, the first photo is the rear top cup (there is no front cup??), and in the 3rd photo the rear spring is fitted in the standard cup (which probably works and gives lower ride height than with adjuster fittedJ.

For right now, I can only tell you what was told to me from memory as I deleted some emails. Once I get the car, I'll take my own pictures and hopefully clear things up.

This is what was told to me in three emails w/the pictures.

1. I was told the suspension was in but the front was sitting 55mm too high, rear was perfect with the adjuster at the bottom. Huh? What? I emailed him back saying I was pretty sure the adjusters should be at the top.

2. Oops looks like you are correct and I read the email incorrectly. "Once these caps were removed from the top spring perch the adjusters fit. He did trim the front boots not remove. The instructions were quite vague." I'll correct the other post.

Thanks.

I should know the exact sequence of events tomorrow and have pictures of all the parts.

Yea instructions perhaps cause more confusion than help, since its quite straight forward a job anyway. The instructions also omit removing the rear top cup which is why it catches so many installers out!

2. I then received an email saying they figured it out, removed the front something and now the fronts where good (picture 1)

The first picture of the front suspension does have the adjuster set really high...

Well spotted. Looks like there is some confusion with the installer with the actual LOCATION of the rear adjuster and the position of the adjuster wheels.

On the front the adjuster wheel should be somewhere around 5-15mm from the bottom-of the thread. Looks like theyhad put it all the way to the top which would mean ride height is really high!

Does anyone have photos of this rear top cup?

Is it in this picture? http://cms.windingroad.com/assets/au...acing%2010.jpg

I had JRZ RS Two coilovers installed and suspect mine have not been removed - I hear a thudding noise.

Is it possible to visually tell if it has been removed? Attached is my rear installed.

The first picture shows the adjustable spring perch is butted up to the body shell with no sign of the top cup.

So it appears, I don't know how to read emails too well. I corrected my above post w/pictures.

1. The front shocks OOTB had the adjusters set way too high. 55mm too high. The confusion was they thought BMW would have shipped them set close to their final settings and not like they did.

2. The instructions are not very clear about needing to remove rear cups.

The mechanic stayed late Friday to make sure everything was perfect and let the car sit all weekend to help the springs settle before aligning the car. So all in all everything worked out well.

I don't know how but the M Performance coilovers--like others have said--make for a more comfortable ride (not as jarring) and the corning is flatter than the original M2, though I'm sure some of this is related to the increased stiffness from the strut braces. All in all, though I have only driven 50 miles on them. I think they are going to turn out to be a great purchase.

Some pictures of the final product.

Can someone confirm/post a pic of the rear springs fitted with the adjuster on top of the spring? In the process of installing the kit, I think my installer put the adjuster on the bottom of the spring

That rear adjuster is a pain to get to lol. I was trying to raise my rear a tiny bit and could only barely get the tool in there to turn it.

Agreed. This might be part of the reason why KW suggest removing it to make adjustments. Although on the KW setup the helper spring arrangement might make that easier.
