Cobra Nogaro Seats Installed!
After five months of planning and waiting, I finally got around to installing a custom set of Cobra Nogaro Circuits in my 2017 M2. Total cost was about $2200 plus an afternoon to install.
I ordered by leather and alcantara from UK Hide, so I didn't have to pay shipping or import tariffs (though I did have to pay VAT, apparently since the hides aren't immediately re-exported and instead turned into something else). I used a full hide of Schwarz Black Basis leather and 1m of Charcoal (9002) backed alcantara, as well as Cobra's provided polar blue stitching. I probably should have had BMW seat heaters installed, though the folks at HMS told me I can just add them under the pads in the future. That will require me pulling the seat electronics modules off the current seats (or buying new ones) as well as trying to find out how to fit F87 seat heaters into these seats. I may go for E46 ones (they're rectangular) and replace the plugs, or get aftermarket ones and add a thermostat. As you can see, I'm running a Quickfit Pro. It was a PITA to install, given that the buckle doesn't fit through the harness straps unless you disassemble it partially--which is exacerbated by Schroth filling one of the hex screws with paint to discourage you from doing this. You're pretty well locked in with this combination, and I'm excited for some spirited driving and auto-x in the near future. My only gripe so far is that the rear seats are nearly impossible to get into/out of (you have to be a fairly slim or small human, and enter through the bottom of the seat and slide your way up, or enter from the trunk...). Once you're there; however, you've got plenty of leg room! So still works to haul kids (or skis), but maybe not your friends. I haven't coded out all the warnings yet, so the car is fairly unhappy at startup. I'll update this thread with some more info once I've got that dealt with them. Special thanks to Brian @ HMS Motorsports, who shepherded this project along and put up with tons of my questions. Super helpful guy backed up by a great team. Plan is to turn the old seats into living room chairs (a la the SV-40), and I'm sure I'll post some pictures when they're done. Last edited by asciimike; 12-04-2019 at 10:54 PM.. |

Looks great!
Mind if I put these pictures in the Cobra Nogaro picture thread on M3forum?

Got word from the folks at HMS that the Quickfit Pros have been approved with the Nogaros (apparently they were still testing them earlier this year).
Also, turns out there's an easier way to take the buckle off than disassembling the lock: you can lock and unlock parts of the belt from the front as per this video: |

What did you do with your airbag sensor for the seat? Does your warning light still pop up on your dash?

Those look great ! That cost appears low tho...considering the cost of the base seat. Can you provide some breakdown of your costs ? Last edited by M2C AW; 12-19-2019 at 10:08 AM.. |

Damn OP those look great! I want the same seats in mine so I have a couple of Qs. What mounting brackets did you use? Which Harness part number? Do you still have the 3pt belt? could you take a pic of u in the seat with the 3 point belt over your lap? Any clearance issues with the seats? can you still get in the back seat?

Leather: $480 shipped for 1 full hide and 1m of backed alcantara (bought from UK hide: https://www.ukhide.co.uk/product/basis-3000b-black-bmw/, https://www.ukhide.co.uk/product/alc...9002-charcoal/) Brackets: $315 shipped from Vivid Racing (https://www.vividracing.com/brey-kra...152580177.html) Switches, wiring, etc.: $35 or so from ECS So ~2800 total. HMS gave me a reasonable discount on each seat and basically free shipping, which probably brought it closer to 2400 than 2200, apologies. Cobra is nice in that they'll do the upholstery work for you, so I supplied the material and they did everything on their factory lines. They'll add seat heaters if you want (I regret not adding them, especially since I'm moving to a colder climate), as well as an inflatable lumbar support (haven't felt the need for this yet). I left the three points in, they work perfectly with the seats. I'm a 32" waist and the belts aren't caught on the seat at all. I can grab some photos when the light is better. The four points are Schroth QuickFit pros (https://www.hmsmotorsport.com/products/quickfit-pro). The back seats aren't super accessible--kids likely wouldn't be a problem (I don't have any so I can't really test this), but adults of any reasonable size basically need to shimmy in from the bottom and pop up. It won't really work in a tight parking space, for instance. I've heard the manual sliders have a little more room, though I don't know if it's the case. In any event, I treat my car like a two-seater with more than average trunk capacity. |

This is exactly the set up I’ve been researching for the past several months...looks great. My only concern is that I carry my track wheels in the back seat and don’t know if I can still load them without going through the trunk

I am a 30-32" in waist and its great to hear the belts don't catch. I also planned to use the Brey Krause seat fitting kit. Based on your observation I may just swap one seat for now. PS cobra can make you another center section with seat heaters built in. I was planing on doing so in order to be able to use a 5/6pt harness. The harness would need to go through the seat heating mat otherwise which is not possible. Trying it out this afternoon hope its snug.

I'm pretty sure they won't fit in the rears (one of the M3 Forum posts mention this). That said, that's why I'm glad the rear seats fold down... Unsure if a full set of wheels will fit this way though. I've got two spare front tires and I'll see if I can maneuver them in and see if there's room for two more.

Perhaps if you only do the driver's seat you get some flexibility in loading passengers and wheels through the passenger side. But that weight savings is pretty sweet.
Do you DD with the quickfit? Or switch to 3-point? |

The only downside is that I’ve been pulled over three times in that time and asked why I’m not wearing a seatbelt. Cops can apparently see the loose three point, but not the giant X of webbing for the four point. They claim that they think I’m just wearing large suspenders ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |
