I think the key thing to take away from the VIN numbers, almost everything is going to be an option. So you will be able to price how you like.
The current F87 M2 for the European market can be spec'ed à la carte.

The current F87 M2 for the US market only gets limited choice: body color | M-DCT | Executive Package | moonroof | Apple CarPlay (and early 2016 not even the last two).

The M2 Competition list is long(er) than the current M2 options list (see here).

Time will tell whether, for the 2U73 (F87 M2 Competition for the US market), BMW will stuff virtually all options again in one pack with some fancy name ("Track Package", "CS Package", "CSL 1aB Package", "Xpensive Package", "Whatever Package", "WROON Package" [WeRanOutOfNames Package], etc.) and put an even fancier price-tag on it.

Or maybe two packages: "Executive Package" (similar to the current one) + another pack with those more track-oriented goodies (one-piece seats [option 712], uprated brakes [option 2NH] and Y-spoke wheels [options 2QT or 29U]) ?

Educated guess (2U71 | 2U72 | 2U73):
  • stripper (zero options): outside M3/M4 price-territory;
  • all bells 'n whistles (fully fledged): inside M3/M4 price-territory.
As said before, some in Germany have heard quotes up to EUR12K price-increase for the M2 Competition. So wake up and smell the roses.
Several posts of today regarding possible pricing were moved to a different thread ("How much will the M2 Competition cost?").

39 pre-test series M2 Competition (including several that are still scheduled to be built) feature option 403: glass sliding roof ("Glas Roof, Electric" - "Glasdach, Elektrisch").

Renders, on the contrary, often show design CF roofs.

If the M2 Competition features a CF roof (which I doubt), then kudos to BMW M for having managed to keep that feature totally out of public sight. CF roof might be reserved for the hardcore F87 M2, *if* ever released (2019-2020).

Check the difference in roofs on this Winter 2016-2017 picture: M2 test mule trailing an M3 test mule (you can partially spot the double-bubble CF roof shape on the M3, unlike on the M2):

Some folks gave the M2 a silver treatment. This ain't Hockenheim Silver Metallic, but nevertheless gets us an idea:

I forgot that the old "Bat-mobile" came in silver. Not a fan of the livery, but I can see that silver and those wheels could be a winner.

My wife told me once that If I bought that color she wouldn't ride in the car.

Personally I like the color.

Good lord that color is hideous, ghastly, repugnant, obnoxious, scummy, an abhorrent abomination to other colors in general. All subjective of course.

I spoke with a dealer today and he said that BMW would be making a 2019 base M2 with the N55 engine.

He pulled up a page on his system that displayed a list of 2019 models and their production range. He pointed out the line with "M2 Cp" (not Cs) which begins production 7/18 and ends 6/19.

If the Cp means Competition then I guess he's wrong, if it means Coupe, then I don't know what to believe anymore. I'm stuck between ordering a 2018 M2 and wondering if the new 2019 is only a few thousand more. The suspense is killing me.

He also said the M2 didn't get the 5% base MSRP discount on ED so it erodes a little of my trust.

Since all M2's are coupes, why would it need to be listed as a coupe?

It would have been better to check any other model BMW coupe in his system and see it was listed as Cp.

Yeah, unfortunately I didn't get a chance to study it.

I was basing my comment on seeing a very similarly formatted list posted somewhere here that had "M2 Cs" instead of "M2 Cp".

I was being light hearted. I hope I didn't offend you. All these rumors are making me punchy. I'll have nothing to do online until this is official lmao.

Asking your dealer is like asking a bum on the street. They don't work at BMW, the employees at footlocker don't know what Nike's plans are, they just sell the product when it gets to their store.

See post #1620 of this thread which included this MY2019 screenshot posted earlier by forum fellow SickFinga showing the '2U73' model code. There's a 99.99% chance that if you ask "Does it say 2U73 ?", your dealer will answer "Yes". Ignore the description and N55 rambling. '2U73' is the model code for the US spec F87 M2 Competition (S55) (see pre-series F87 M2 Competition VINs here).

Artemis mentioned earlier that they are probably starting production in March 2018.This would account for the additional 4 months of production. They are probably starting some production of HEA cars now for the official launch date of the M2 Competition.

SCOTT26 Is there an official retail launch date for the M2 Competition, when cars will start to be sold at BMW dealers?

Before someone asks:

HEA = Handler-Erst-Ausstattung = First production cars delivered to dealerships
