Talking about the E82: at least the 1M didn't feature the auto 'start/stop' function. It featured neither an ECO MODE nor 'Efficient Dynamics' graphics on the instrument cluster. On the contrary its instrument cluster featured an analog oil temp meter. Yeah, BMW M got it right with the 1M. It's a classic for all the right reasons.

I'm sure it does, I have adaptive on mine as well. However high beam assist is bad at detecting trucks on the french motor way for some reaons. On the motor way in france the middle separation is usually high enough to hide incoming truck beams, so the car stay in high beam but the truck driver himself is high seated and gets blinded For some reasons incoming cars are properly avoided... So I disable high beam assist on the motorway.. on normal road it's fine.

"The projection of light from low-beam headlamps is asymmetrical. The kerbside lamp projects light forwards, while the other headlamp dips the beam down and away from oncoming traffic, so as not to dazzle drivers coming in the opposite direction. In Europe, headlamps approved for use on one side of the road must be adaptable to produce adequate illumination with controlled glare for temporarily driving on the other side of the road. This is done by affixing masking strips or prismatic lenses to a designated part of the lens or by moving all or part of the headlamp optic so all or part of the beam is shifted or the asymmetrical portion is occluded. Some cars have a built in adjustment to adapt the projection mechanically."Anyways, technology can do a lot, but can never emulate the human eye.

Other than that the manual state that LED and Xenons are symetrical and don't need the sticker thing ^^. This remain needed for halogen as far as I know. |

That of course is assuming that the Adaptive LEDs we receive on the M2 will be the same tech as on the M3/M4, rather than possibly just swiveling projectors with a single LED source behind them (I believe this is what Subaru still does with their LED headlights, although I haven't taken one apart to know for sure.)

Agree for me the black looks better and matches the rest of the centre console, however there is also a fair amount of chrome detailing so its not too out of place. |

So less about them trying to get it right and more about the 1M having the "typical features" of the time. |

You guys on about auto start / stop:
1) in the US it remembers your choice by default. 2) abroad, it can be changed easily by coding Code:
Auto Start/Stop Default OFF: 3023 TCM_MSA_DEFAULT_OFF set to: aktiv Auto Start/Stop Remember Last Setting: 3023 TCM_MSA_MEMORY set to: aktiv

I too thought they were digital, but they're not. A few posts back you can see a diagram where the OP highlighted what's digital and what's not... and it's the same as pre LCI. I actually liked the look of the pre-LCI dials, because I sort of like the grey backgrounds, but I can see from the photos that they really are difficult to see at night, so I'm happy I have an LCI on order. |
