Meanwhile cars with much later production dates are already on dealer lots or in owners hands. So aggravated with this whole thing.

Thanks, wonder why they would make me sign the waiver then.

Weird, did you take delivery of your car already? If so, did someone say you would need to come back for another diff?

So I'm about to sign up for an F80 built 25th June and here at a UK dealer - only just seen this thread and am too wondering what this means. Dealer has not as yet got back to me and BMW online gave me this response

“I would kindly suggest that you contact the Retailer you'll be buying the car from, as it hasn't been classified as an official recall, as it hasn't compromised the safety of the F80 M3 models.

It is however classified as an enhancement which would be picked up by the Retailer.”

Any way I can check I'm affected and should I reject car if they don't repair ? I don't even know what enhancement means

Apologies I have asked the same question on M3cutters as well.

The dealer can tell you if the car is affected or not and BMW will most definitely fix it if it's the diff issue. They are not calling it a recall but it was rather a delivery stop which is much less likely to end up in the media.

Anyone else experiencing anything similar with new or old diff? The original one I had made no noises at all over 2500km.

Thanks
Well I brought my car in to the dealer today for them to take a listen to above mentioned noises. Aaaaannnd BOOM! The unfathomable... "Sorry sir your new differential is defective, is a safety concern and we will be keeping your car until we receive yet another replacement differential."

I honestly feel as though I'm trapped in a nightmare. I don't know what to say. I have been rendered completely speechless by BMW. So much disappointment, I can't even begin to describe it.

Just saw on a posting on the Bimmerfest forum that there may be another recall, related to incorrectly re-used bolts on some cars that had the diff replaced. Pic of the affected VINs

Looks like I might be close to resolution. Although I thought that I was there about 3 weeks ago. They have promised that my car would be at the dealer no later than Friday 9/16.

So far they have:
  • Replaced the diff as part of the recall
  • Replaced a bumper that was damaged in transit
  • Replace the entire transmission because they said it wasn't shifting correctly (DCT)

I haven't driven an inch in the car even though I did ED on 7/8. They say that they are going to make it right with me, and I tend to believe them. I am just hoping to bring this to closure.

Hopefully I can get through my break in period and service before my track days on 10/1 & 10/2.

Some of these Vin's are dangerously close to mine. Is this the full list of cars that are affected? I stopped by Bimmerfest and it looks to be only these cars as far as I can tell. Not sure if I can deal with anymore bullshit with this M4. Failed EDs, Fucked up Diffs, Terrible customer service initially (gotten better lately)

Just got mine back from full car clear bra, but with only 45 miles the diff is acting up and it sounds like I have car jack flying around in the trunk.

Is this the replacement diff you are driving now? If yes did you have any noises from the original diff?

Sounds like the same metallic clunks I started experiencing with the replacement differential.

Nice ass btw

Lol thanks. No this is the first diff awaiting a new one that should arrive in October sometime. Now the strange part is I only hear it when the DCT is at level 2 or when the engine is sport mode.

Mine also gave me problems within the first 100 miles from new. Now replaced all seems fine but still running in so not used in anger. Bigger concern is an earlier post on this thread from a couple of days back where someone appears to have an issue with their replacement diff!

Just got back from PCD. Drove about 700 miles home and heard no funny sounds/clanking.
