Talking Top Gear Performance Car of the Year - Chris Harris M2 Competition review (trailer)

Not like it's a long video but M2 Competition @ 1:46 in.

Chris Harris' review of M2 Competition from the Top Gear Performance Car of the Year competition (posted by @Davil):

Quote:
"For similar money, BMW will sell you the new M2 Competition, which is basically an updated M2 fitted with a detuned M3 motor and some suspension upgrades. And it's a corker. The extra weight of the new engine doesn't factor, and the whole car feels less skittish than before. It's easier and more rewarding to drive smoothly and still a complete nutter if you want to enjoy that kind of thing. I loved the new clock faces, the sound of the motor on the overrun and I still think this is the best-looking M car on sale. In fact, it's so good, we all felt it needed to make the top five. Alongside the Alpine which - let's face it - simply has to make it through."

Love Chris Harris, but I know from my own experiences that this is a beast of a car.

I was thinking earlier, "Man, it must be tough to be a car reviewer. You're driving all these amazing machines all the time... maybe it just gets old and stale. And then you start thinking 'oh, no, not another Ferrari...' Maybe it's just a job... a grind."

Makes me think of this parody:

A little taste from the magazine article. It is behind a paywall.

Chris Harris:
Quote:
Prod the throttle, and it prods you back - the way it responds is angrier, zingier and a bit more immediate, with a deeper hunger for revs. Keep it pinned and there's that metallic rasp from the M4, and a lovely linearity to the delivery that makes you forget this is turbocharged at all. A Stanley knife of an engine.
Quote:
It's on your side from the get-go, more keyed into the road than the standard M2, immediately messaging your confidence. I judge this phenomenon by how quickly I kill the traction control completely, and after half a lap it's off and I'm sliding it around everwhere like a loon.

Some more Chris Harris quotes:
Quote:
The M2 fizzes with energy, hopping off kerbs, jinking through the chicane, lighting up its tyres playfully at every exit.
Another from President of the "Save the Manual" club:
Quote:
I'd like to say I'd have the manual, the purists' choice, but I wouldn't - the twin-clutch is just so good I don't miss it.

A hint...the car is not sold in the US. The M2C does advance to the final five.

I expect the winner to be French.
I’d likely have ordered one instead of the M2C if they came with rear seats.

From the Top Gear magazine:
"It does indeed enter corners with more bite, and the throttle response is palpably crisper. It even sounds more authentic than any M car of the last decade. For my money, it's the best M since BMW went turbo - less bludgeon, more balance. Not so scary after all, even for a Warmduscher - 'individual who can't tolerate cold showers'."

"(Comparing M2C to Vantage) So why is it that I keep going back to the BMW? because while the thought of one more lap in the M2 feels like a treat, in the Aston it's tinged with risk. The M2 might be angrier, sharper and more dialled in than before, but it's still got softer edges and a more approachable demeanor. ... I like the Vantage, I love the idea of owning one, but really it's the M2 that fills me with more joy, more of the time. Always have been a jeans and a T-shirt kind of guy..."

Aside from the "suspension upgrades" part, pretty solid statements from Chris

Gee the M2C is a real giant slayer if it in within the top 5 when facing off these competitors

Bugatti Chiron, Dallara, GT2 RS, 488 Pista, 600LT, Exige Cup 430, Alpine A110...
