It looks as if they are investigating a more hardcore M2 having seen one at a test track, mixing aerodynamics of the Vision GT and the Racing but identifiable as the M2 but far more muscular and brutal than the standard M2. It could be for racing purpose showcase but I like to Think of it as a potential rival to the Porsche Cayman GT4 and the first modern BMW "Batmobile" since the E9.

Sips Tea...

Haha you're messing with us now Scott.

That would be superb! The closer to the Vision GT the better, I'd pay a premium for that exact car, colour, everything.

Not ashamed to say I'm too new skool (although on my 8th BMW ) that I had to look up the E9. This CSL version looked pretty amped!

I am fairly certain there is a term for your desired type that has unfortunately already bestowed the automotive world. Does the word/term "Spinner" sound vaguely familiar?

I hope you are right. It is for this reason, despite being 1st on list for the M2 at my BMW dealer with a deposit paid too, that I asked for my place to be taken off the M2 list and put on to a potential M2 CSL / GTS instead.

BMW just don't have anything to rival the GT4 and 911 GT models, they are totally capable of doing so. I am an ex-E46 M3 CSL owner and have been waiting for a while now.

Good job on the render! So is the Carbon Fiber roof off the table for the M2? I wish we could know, it might determine if I buy one of these when my lease is up Summer 2016!

Still waiting to see what this thing will weigh in. If it's M3/M4 weight, then I'm not too sure if there's a point in getting a M2 instead of a M3/M4 aside from price.

We need something to do while our GT4s are being built

I like the renders and am hopeful that the production car styling will live up to the expectations of everyone. I do wish that the renders would stop showing csl type wheels though. They are very much turn of the century. I'm even more hopeful that the actual production car doesn't include them.

yeah It makes sense for BMW to follow the same strategy as Porsche. Introduce the M2 and 2 years later release a version with all the goodies.

As much as it pains me but I think I'll go for the M2, and then upgrade to the CSL/GTS version, will loose some money in the process but that's better than sit around and wait eternally like I'm doing now...

Praying Bumper and front fenders direct fit on a m235i , not to be a fake m2 but the 2 series wheel fitment is pretty weak, In a few years I'd love to use Oem parts to gain the width up front and maybe figure out something for the rear!!

I remember that you had posted a pic with different renders and variations of the M2 on a poster. And there was one that seemed more realistic, yet race like, almost like the e9 Batmobile...hmmm.

You keep sipping that tea, and we keep sipping that Kool Aid that you keep providing us...

CSL wheels are Turn of the century? The e92 M3 with the Comp package had them until 2013-2014. They are classics now. I guess you can even say they hark back to the BBS basket weaves of the 70s, early 80s. Which means that they have originated before the turn of the century. And there is nothing wrong with the design. In fact, it seems that the old school designs are the ones that last the longest.

... Makes sense. This was predictable, cause there must be an answer to the GT4. This GTS/ CSL version likely to have some variation of the S55 motor?
(and yes Mr Adjuster,... I have deflected to the GT4)

I know some of you may think this is a stupid pointless question, but just wondering with the use of CF roofs on a lot of the M cars lately, what are the odds of a sunroof option on the M2?

I have a couple of deposits in at a few different dealers. No guarantee I'll get one until allocations are released in a week or so, unfortunately...

Got my fingers and toes crossed! I haven't been this excited about a car since, well, the E92M was revealed in 2007.

Right or wrong I associate them with the e46 m3 and to your point they did continue to last within BMW as well as outside with VMR and Apex and others. I got it that they are classic. Just not my cup of tea and was hoping to see some renders with wheels more similar to current M cars or something else. The car is fresher, modern, and new but the wheels are off the shelf from the past. In any event, all is a matter of opinion and I would still love to see the car with some more current wheel designs.

Let's go. Fix the hood line, keep the rear wheel vents and give us a true GT6-like rocket! Enough with playing it safe or "versioning" what should be a killer automobile right outta the gate.
