Rest assured, it's just poking fun, based on previous discussions about what BMW marketing folks promoted as "iconic ///M design elements" or "well-known ///M design icons" featuring on the M2.

Why do they feel they need all those extra folds in the front bumper? And all at sharp angles.

That whole section coming down from halfway up, covering some of the air intakes, should have to go instantly.

The sculpturing of the doors and side is also a bit borderline too baroque, but it would work if the front wasn't looking like it does now.

The 'form follows function' principle (i.e. the shape of the object should be primarily based upon its intended function or purpose) + ///M history, according to BMW.
