14th Time the Charm?

New 2018 M2 Onwer here. Serial BMW offender ever since I called my Dad a yuppie when he bought his 86 325i and he threw me the keys and said shut up and go for a drive.

I had about given up on BMW as they kept getting bigger and heavier and less driver oriented more complex and less reliable over the years.

Somehow I ended up test driving a 2017 M2 and got pulled back in. The right size just enough power, balance, grip, etc... A real drivers car.

Anyway that started the search and ended up last Sat picking up a 2018 6MT with cold weather, Exec, MPerformance with the MPerformance exhaust.

I did the M School a few years ago and remember thinking yeah good cars M2 and M3 but nothing I had to have. However on the street the M2 just ticks all the boxes for me. It's good to be back.

Welcome. The size and balance is one of the biggest reasons to get this car.

This quoted statement has me puzzled a bit. What changed between now and then?

A couple things. 1. the track cars were all DCT which on the track is great, but I'm a 3 pedal guy so there was that. Also my biggest takeaway from the cars that weekend was that the carbon brakes on the M3 were a huge advantage on the track. The M2 didn't have them so that was part of it.

But, that all goes away on the street. I didn't buy this car to track it, although an auto cross or two would be fun, I bought it to be my summer daily.

Also had recently had some major reliability issues with a 4.4 X5 and my wife's F10 535i, so was really turned off by BMW and where they were and where they were headed, then I found this little gem. I can forgive a lot in the reliability area if the car is fun and this is one of the most fun I've had in quite a while its a much more raw experience which is what I prefer. Reminds me in essence of my E30 and to some degree my air cooled 911s in a modern format if that makes any sense. Seems to be one of the more analog driving experiences that you can get nowadays.

And seems based on what I have read in the forums to be one of the most reliable M cars in recent times

Love the wheels. Maybe CF mirror caps and rear diffuser to complete the look. The CF rear diffuser I have make the back look amazing IMO. Enjoy!

Congrats on the purchase. Love the wheels and the Car looks great!

No question the M2 is the most fun car in BMWs lineup. You will love every minute of it....For example I was in a parking garage yesterday revving the engine a bit with the windows down just to hear the exhaust echo. Giddy like a kid. It's the little things.

Enjoy in good health!

Loving the MPE and car in general. Too bad it won't get much drive time between now and March / April. Already getting snow in MN.

Glad to hear your back. I too was leaning away from bmw 2 doors lately but the M2 got me back. Was on the verge of reconnecting with a used 135 and decided the LCI M2 was a much better choice. It's also great to have parts available new and used at such great value.

I upgraded to M3 style mirror housing from IND with CF caps and tinted sequential signals. Was around $700 I think, but looks a lot more aggressive than adding CF caps only.
