BMW F87 M2 Competition Genuine M performance Alcantara steering wheel w/ interior

Installed Genuine BMW M performance full alcantara steering wheel with OLed display and carbon fibre cover on the F87 M2 competition.
Genuine M performance interior kit including alcantara & carbon fibre hand brake, center console trim and shift knob cover was also installed on this car to give it an extra touch of sportiness.

I have the M Performance interior kit also. But I am not a fan of that wheel. I do have the M Performance steering wheel trim.

I really want this! How does it feel relative to the original one? Thicker or about the same?

I have a love hate relationship with this wheel. It turns off when the ambient gets above 32c.

Just installed this wheel today. It's really nice. It's thicker, but more comfortable. The M Perf wheel wasn't round, especially at the top, not to say that's bad. I like them both. But now I like the "race" wheel much better. I also like the RPM lights, and will assume they will be great at the track next weekend. Lap times and other features like the quarter mile are fun additions. The wheel is really engaging and makes for a racier feel. I had the metal trim painted red to match the start button too. I'm not proclaiming to be a race driver, but I enjoy the track and I love mods that engage the car with the driver, enhancing the overall experience.

Congrats on the upgrade bimmer98! Can you post some photos of your steering wheel as well? Would like to see the effect of the painted trim haha.

OP, thanks for the pics. I was indecisive between wheels (CS or this wheel) as I already have the interior CF kit. I just can't stop gawking at this wheel so its my bday gift to myself.

The color is a little off in the picture, but it’s a pretty bright red. I’d go a little less gloss if I had it to do over. It was hard to know exactly what I’d get from IND. I added a red shift knob from Black Forrest and several Alcantara pieces with 3m stitching from bimmer masterpieces and redline goods.....arm rest, shift boot, ebrake boot, knee rest, dash cluster cover. It should all match nicely once it all comes together.

How did you install the red trim? Did you glue it on after removing the old one?

No. I bought a new one from IND Distribution and it came with new one time use washer snaps. When you take off the stock one, you have to break them. So if you are going to paint the original yourself, you'd need to buy new washer snaps from somewhere to reinstall it. It takes a bit of force. There's some YouTube videos around that show the install process.

There's a little screw on the bottom of the wheel, on the back that will release the carbon fiber piece. Once that's off you can access the rear and break the snap washers, the trim will fall right off the carbon fiber. Same with any of the steering wheels.

I had them custom paint it same as the start button. That is a normal color for them. I'm sure you could do it yourself with a quality spray can and proper finish.

Fairly certain you can, as I got mine from Hong Kong

Just search eBay, there is a listing for them 40 washers for $11AUD.
