Touchscreen but I drive 6 lite?

Hi all

I'm confused

Just picked up a 2017 LCI and I thought it had ID5 and assumed it was non touchscreen.

Anyway a week after I picked up the car I have just realised that it is touchscreen and that the HMI ID VERSION is 6 lite.

I thought that by having a touchscreen it meant that it would be on ID6 not ID6 lite?

Are there any advantages to me trying to code ID6 now??

I am using BimmerCode.

Thanks

AFAIK, all LCI M2s have the touchscreen unit.

Coding just changes the UI/skin, if it's already ID6 lite then I'm not sure what other options you're going to have. What does bimmercode show?

Yeah I have the option of:

ID 5
ID 5 plus plus
ID 6 lite
ID 6

It is currently on ID 6 lite.

Wonder what changing it to ID 6 would do?

AFAIK the only differences between 6 and 6lite are small things like touchscreen related stuff and gesture control. Lite is meant for cars w/o a touchscreen so it's weird that your LCI wouldn't be coded to the standard 6 version.

If you picked it up used it's possible that the previous owner did some coding or retrofitting. Would be helpful to look up your build sheet with the vin and see what options your car came with as standard.

As far as advantages or disadvantages of changing from one version to the other, I'd say if it's not broke, don't fix it.

I have the build sheet but I can't really tell if it came with it from the factory.

It's a December 17 build so should come with the touchscreen from new

I don't believe your vehicle is an LCI; the "model year" is determined by the calendar year, in other parts of the world but in North American, it changes over in July, of that year.

For instance, since his vehicle was built up to December 2017, would be considered a 2017 model year, hence, a pre-LCI.

However, here in the US, a 2017 model year can still have a "2018" designation, hence LCI, depending on the month of build..

This is just my assumption but I could be wrong..

BTW do you have LEDs headlight and a LCI LED taillights or is it Xenon and incandescent brake light bulbs?

I have the led lights and it is 100% LCI

I have just tried to code the ID6 and it just went all weird and the menu was off the screen so I just changed it back

in a normal/non-pandemic year, the MY changeover typically happens with the late summer/early fall build dates. A Dec 2017 built car is almost certainly a 2018MY and an LCI car. My Nov 2016 built M2 is a 2017MY.

Well, going by RealOEM, anything built after June 2017 is LCI.
