Ack, thanks for the sale tip off. I just ordered mine. How long did it take to get yours? I think it will look great on HS

Of course

It took 7 days to arrive from the date I ordered them. I see you're in DC, so it will probably take about the same amount of time.

They should look great on HS!

Ok, so my caps came. I bought the ones in the link that Ack provided, and even checked if they are dry CF, which Ack posted a pic confirming (see earlier in the thread). Anyway, turns out the ones in the link are not CF. So I think Ack got lucky, or the link was incorrect for the dry CF ones. Anyway, long story short, here is what i received. Based on the description it says "made from durable plastic and carbon fiber. Made from 100% non-recycled plastic with carbon fiber overlay". They are AutoTecknic however.

So my question to the CF experts here, should I return these and get the dry CG ones (and deal with the hassle of returns / exchanges)? What is the downside to these versus dry CF? The dry CF ones are only $15 more, but if there really is not much difference then I'd rather avoid the hassle. Thanks guys.

If I remember right this was the first generation of the caps. The all carbon caps have a better fit and were produced later in the M3/M4 run. I would be worried about the carbon delaminating from the plastic if you plan on keeping your car for the long term.

Kutta

You got them at what seems like relatively no cost compared to the OEM caps.

STILL, I doubt they are going to fall apart or get funky over night. . . just pop them on enjoy!

Worst case scenario is they go to hell in a year or three and, if you still own the car when they do, just throw the original caps back on.

. . . or, just return them 😄

It's the hassle of returning and waiting again that I was trying to avoid. Anyway, it's going back tomorrow. I don't like compromising on shit I want, so may as well wait a few more days.

Yeah, I know thanks. But upon looking closer, its basically a CF overlay over plastic, and as DanG said, why risk the peeling etc. I keep my cars a long time so dont need the headache down the line, plus it wasn't what I intended to order in the first place.

I have the all carbon ones. They are two years old and look like new.

I'm really sorry BigKutta - I posted an incorrect link to the product I ordered. This is the correct link Autotecknic V2 Dry Carbon Fiber Mirror. I just sent you a PM.

My passenger side fits perfectly but I noticed that on my driver's side cap, the glue line they put down to attach the plastic clips to the CF was thicker than the passenger side, which caused it to not sit exactly flush with the top of the mirror. It seems like they must be gluing these by hand, not machine. I can't think of any other reason why there would be differences.

1-2 mm gap at the most, which is not noticeable unless you knew to look for it.

Did you end up having them ship new ones, or return them completely and try something else?

Return and replace! 😂.

Nowadays, you can probably just request the vendor to give you a pre-paid shipping label, while asking them to send you the new one.

In the end, CF mirror caps are not necessity and waiting for an extra week is no bother (I hope?). Hey, before you joined the forum, you probably didn't know you can get CF mirror caps 😉

My fit has been perfect but on the driver side I did notice a bit of glue (?) on the lower bottom edge. Only someone anal like me would notice LOL. Not sure if I want to replace (since I already replaced the non-dry CF ones)...

Its been a crazy week so haven't had time to think about it much.

They looked great when they arrived until i tried them on.

Driver side = there was a section that bulged up at the bottom edge. the entire cap would pop back out when you pressed the bulge. tried it a few times and the same results just kept happening.

Passenger side = the bottom edge was not lining up correctly. it was sticking too far out. i tried a few more times but still had the same results.

Vendor (IND) was great and gave me a shipping label to send it directly to the manufacturer for a replacement. I was told it was going to take 3 weeks since they were backed up. With shipping, it would've taken 4 weeks to replace. So, i just told them that I would just take refund.
