AutoTecknic Carbon Fiber Mirror Caps

Edit - I'm updating an incorrect link I posted earlier about these mirror caps - The correct link is now mentioned. . .

I bit the bullet and finally purchased the AutoTecknic CF mirror caps from Autotecknic V2 Dry Carbon CF Mirror Caps They were on sale (and still are) for $355. They are dry carbon so they are super light. Install was super easy - pop out the stock caps and pop in the new ones.

The CF quality is very nice. No air bubbles, no strange weave issues, nothing.

The fitment on the passenger side is spot on, while the driver side is slightly raised (1-2 mm) above the mirror in the center of the cap. It really isn't noticeable unless I was to point it out to someone while they were inside the car. You can't tell from outside the vehicle at all. I know CF fitment can be tough to match with an OEM plastic piece so I am going to live with it.

Overall I am quite happy with them. I have a bunch of CF that I plan to order (front splitter, rear spoiler, diffuser, ///M performance exhaust tips) in the next few months. I'll provide updates once they are ordered/installed.

Here are a few pics:

I have them for my M2. I think they look great. Added M2C look to my OG M2 mirrors.

Curious, what's the difference between these and the OEM M Perf ones?

Look great. I have been eyeing these up over at IND, but there work out about $70 cheaper now...may pull the trigger. Did the OEM ones pop out easily? What method did you use? I know there is a video out there, but was wondering if you have your own tips. Thanks

Thanks and I would definitely recommend them!

The OEM ones popped out easy enough for me.

I watched this video and picked up the 3M Hand Applicator Squeegee but couldn't get the squeegee to pop the cap off directly.

Instead, I placed the squeegee between the top of the mirror cap and the mirror housing and tapped it with a rubber mallet until it was wedged in there. I was then able to get my finger tips under the OEM cap and pull the cap towards me. It took some force but everything came out clean without damage to the clips.

You may have better luck than me with the mallet approach.

Yea it's pretty ridiculous, which is why I went for AutoTecknic's caps.

Thank you so much. Their website does not say its dry CF, I just wanted to make sure before I place the order.

Exterior carbon fiber parts are gloss not dry or mat. Even the M Performance parts are gloss.

"Dry carbon fiber" is a manufacturing process not a description of how it looks.

If you're looking to describe the interior carbon trim it is referred to as "open pore carbon fiber"

Dry carbon fiber is another name for "pre-preg", formed using impregnated piece of carbon materials. This piece of carbon is first placed into a mold, and then into a sealed vacuum (autoclave) to properly cure. This particular method creates the least amount of waste and forms a lighter version of carbon than the “wet” method.

The autoclave vacuuming process of making dry carbon means that there are fewer pinholes and virtually no air pockets that form in the carbon. Dry carbon is the highest quality version of carbon fiber products that are produced.

Ind'd website describes it as Dry
https://ind-distribution.com/collect...-mirror-covers

And the OP bought the same brand from another site, only cheaper. The way to tell if its Dry CF is how its described in the video. I'm assuming Autotecknic doesn't make two types, so OP can you confirm based on the inside of the caps that you installed, that the ones you bought from Emnotek are dry CF?

Thanks

They don't have image of the inside of the caps. So that's why I'm not sure it's dry CF.

Yes, that's why I asked OP. Even the Emnotek site doesn't mention the word "dry"

These are definitely dry carbon. I just removed the driver's side and took a picture (below).
