Why it's a Sleeper
I believe the little M2 Competition is a sleeper for the following reasons.
0-60 Close competitors 2019 Camaro SS 1LE 2018 Mustang GT350 2018 BMW M4 2017 Porsche Cayman S 2017 Aston Martin Vantage GT8 2016 Cadillac ATS-V 2013 Camaro ZL1 Why its a sleepy little f*cker 1. It doesn't look very intimidating, rather like a regular 2 Series to most people that would even recognize a 2 Series otherwise looks like a premium compact. 2. Doesn't have any "racecar" bling. 3. It doesn't sound very intimidating (usually). 4. Torque at Low to Mid RPM will surprise the shit out of almost anyone trying to keep you from getting in front of them. 5. It's chubby and kinda cute like a Pixar car What y'all think? |

Well, I can see it may be a relative sleeper compared to its modern competitors. However IMO, the current M cars are not the Q-ships they used to be. Think E28 and E34 M5. Even my E39 M5 was a reasonable Q-ship despite the quad pipes...which I quite enjoyed when it was my DD.
These days, even the 2-series based M2C is hard to ignore. Even among those who are not car ethusiasts, the aggressive front, wide hips and four large black exhaust tips are likely to garner attention. It doesn't help that the M2C is a bit of the "it" car currently so everyone is looking.

I think it's quite the looker personally. Compared to the Camaro and those types of cars it has a really menacing look to it and I think the new grille really does it.

Actually the RS3 is only barely faster to 60 and then loses out completely to the M2C. Using C&D test data, the RS3 is 0.1 sec faster to 60 (3.9 vs 4.0) and the RS3 is a good bit slower to 100mph (9.9 sec vs 9.1).

I don't think this is a sleeper at all. it's got the stance.. in blue or orange it's really a standout. it's aggressive from every angle. non-car people will probably note it as something special. Car people will know exactly what it is. I anticipate getting a lot of ricer fly-by's and "nice car" comments.

I wouldn't consider the M2 a sleeper. It got the looks/screams a sports car.
My Golf R on the other hand is definitely a sleeper. |

tough for any BMW to be a sleeper. but if any could be, I'd say the 3.0 turbo's of the various lines. hell my x535i with MPPK has and can dust many unsuspecting "sporty" vehicles if they aren't ready for it at a light. That's a sleeper. The N54/5 and B58 vehicles move out.

A M2 and M2C are not sleeper cars, by design; the stock exhaust catches everyone's attention, which is the opposite of sleeper.
When a vehicle, in the public streets, emits a above-average sound like the M2 and M2C does, people take notice, it's human nature. Most cars on the road are docile just blend in, so they don't stand out from the bunch. A sleeper is something like the 240i, I had the privilege of driving one and that vehicle is quiet but deceptively and dangerously fast; with the 8 speed, I bounced off the 130mph governor in seconds, by the time I caught myself and looked at the speedo. Thank God I was in "Mexico." What I notice, which should of been obvious, is the louder the vehicle, the faster it "feels." Even the Bentley Flying Spur I rented in Miami, the side glasses and windshield is like a 1/2 inch thick, which I assume is so you won't be able hear poor people from the outside but I tell you, you can hear a pin drop, while doing 160mph, watching everything disappear around you, like the live video is on mute. That's sleeper and dreamer, all in one.. |

I appreciate the discussion fellas and ladies too, if there are any.
I might be able to concede that the M2 has an aggressive look from the front, and the bulging fenders, giant calipers and drilled disks portend something not to be underestimated. But, if a generous but cautious mom was having to decide whether her teenager would get a Camaro SS 1LE, a Mustang, GT350 or a M2C and price wasn't the deciding factor. It seems to me like a no brainer. The spoiled little F**k is getting an M2C. Maybe it's only an obvious choice from my perspective but from that perspective the M2C just doesn't look as menacing compared to similarly powered alternatives. That's not a criticism, it's a compliment. As for the exhaust, in efficiency mode it's quiet as a kitten, even if you rev it out, in efficiency mode anyone with their windows closed might not even notice you're giving it the beans. Pretend you're a cop and you see this happening. Who gets the ticket? Last edited by silverds; 07-02-2019 at 03:43 PM.. |

I am skeptical that the average human can tell the difference between these and wouldn't identify the 240i, in this comparison, as more menacing simply because it's dark gray with black wheels. I think both look subdued compared to comparable German, American and Japanese alternatives.
