It ain't only what happens on track that matters, but also what happens elsewhere.
Therefore, also ask how many sets of tires have been used so far + (if it's M-DCT) if launch control ('Smokey Burnout') has been used frequently.

Ask when it was tracked. A lot of misinformed people believe its good to break in the car at the track. If it was broken in first oils changed probably ok but I would change gear and diff oils. Also extreme heat can damage the wastegates. Finally have a ppi to check system memory to make sure it wasn't overrevved if manual.

As long as the previous owner wasn't slamming curbs (wheel bearings, bent wheels, heavy impacts on suspension) and spinning off into gravel traps (paint) all day you are fine. I track my car and it's very well looked after. I'd rather buy a car that was enthusiast owned, well cared for, and had track time than some random car off a dealer lot that had 15k oil change intervals and a complete unknown provence. Cars that are driven hard and regularly feel much better in my experience.
You should also consider tracking the car yourself, it's the absolute best way to explore the limits. and frighteningly addictive.. |

I get the feeling that cars that are tracked are owned by people who actually give a shit. The cars that have been trouble cars are cars that have been tuned and modded, not cars that were un tuned but tracked.

Honestly, it is working out! No terminal Audi undesteer here, that's for sure. I considered the RS5 for a hot minute, and I'm glad I ended up with the BMW instead. I bought an M2 while I'm an Ex-Pat here in Germany because of how fucking hard it is to modify a car here. TUV has got everyone in a choke hold over anything non-stock. Even going to slightly larger tire is a problem because on your registration there is only one acceptable tires size mentioned. The OEM size.
So knowing this I wanted a car that's ready out of the box save pads and brake fluid. And the M2 has been a wise choice. I know it's easy to modify, I know it's fairly easy to get more power out of the N55, but this car is damn good the way it is. And if I keep it the way it is it will also be easy to sell when it's time to go home. Could I use the an extra 60-90 hp? Sure. We all could. But for stock this is fantastic.

I am also about to pull the trigger on a 2018 M2 that has been tracked. It only has about 7500 miles, but I am still concerned. The front brakes are already discolored and the previous owner installed a Dinan intake, intercooler, and “stage 2” tune. The car looks flawless except for the underside of the hood (Seems to have some strange staining).
I need to make a decision tomorrow on if I will buy the car, or continue my search. |

38,000 miles and 22 track days on my car. I would bet it is better maintained then most. From the guys I have met that track their cars they also do more to keep their cars in solid shape.
3 days of track time isn't much, 4 - 20 min sessions for most so not a lot of actual time. I would get a PPI on any used car of significant value but I wouldn't let the track time bother me. In fact I would think the seller is more honest then most because if he didn't tell you its doubtful a PPI would show any signs of track driving . |

I've tracked my car over thirty days. I keep every record of maintenance. Probably change my fluids too much. Not tuned either. Just running PFC pads and sport cat. I'm not interested in check engine lights and all that. I'm still not outdriving the car on track so why add more power? Car is good as is.
