Wireless Charger mod - Fit larger phones
Hello folks! I got my M2 LCI nearly 10 months ago and I was very frustrated that the charger would not fit my Samsung s8+. Being a tinkerer of sorts, I decided to mod it to make it fit. I've seen other posts where people remove the lower bracket to fit their devices but I want that bracket to hold my phone in place. What I did instead was to 3d model a new bracket that would give me about an extra inch of extra room, printed it using a 3d printer, and reassembled the charger cradle with the printed component.
Result: it works! The design is not perfect but I fixed my biggest issue with the car. Posting pictures to show the end result. Thanks! EDIT: I have posted detailed instructions on the removal and install of this bracket here: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1534787 If anyone wants this part, you can purchase it here https://www.shapeways.com/product/XY...ionId=70892401 EDIT 2: The part is not available from Shapeways anymore unfortunately. I have uploaded the model here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3819314. You can either download the model and print i yourself (or use a 3d printing service) or click the "Order this printed" button. Last edited by SteveC90; 08-19-2019 at 06:17 PM.. |

very cool! I ended up completely removing the wireless charger from my center console. Rather have the room to put my crap in

I just don't understand wanting to open the armrest and screwing around with wedging the phone into that cradle every time you get in, and then remembering to open it and pull the phone when you get out of the car. If they had put the cradle somewhere sensible, like in front of the cupholders, then it might be useful.
I like to keep my phone charged too, but I use a dash mount and a wired charging holder attached to that mount... so much easier to just drop in on entry or grab when exiting, and it's visible so much harder to forget it (even with that, I occasionally do). Two thumbs up for the mod though. I wish I had a 3d printer sometimes.

That's nice. Looks like I need to utilize my public library's 3-d printer for my iPhone plus now.

Hmmm. I use my center console charger daily with my iPhone X and didn't really expect I would.
I think this mod is great -- any way you can post a link to your source file? It sure would come in handy when I eventually go back to a plus-sized iPhone. |

This is the first time I modeled a part from scratch. The one thing that is missing from this model is positioning holes on each side of the screw holes on the bottom. I found that I did not need them though. The Screws hold the piece securely in place. |

Like ZPrime mentions above, I find the charging location basically unusable. I haven't spent even a minute looking into how the charging pad is set up. But I wonder if a.) anyone else has and b.) if there's any way to move that to a location in the dash, even if it would mean running the wire to some sort of mount affixed to the dash. Or what is behind the the blankout panel below the radio?
I just feel like there's a better way to manage this. Anyone seen a good solution? |

Sorry to an old post, but does anyone have a link to the 3d printed part? I just got my car and my XS max does not fit looking to do this mod.

It seems a valid alternative to the original. I'm tempted...but I don't have the car yet

Does the M2 LCI or pre LCI or M2 Comp for that matter have the same center console/cup holder dimensions as any f22 2 series? |

Here's the latest update: we've determined this product won't fit in my 2017 M2 (pre-LCI). This could be a language barrier, but he said not all F22 series have the same cup holder area dimensions. If someone knows otherwise, please chime in. The search continues!

My iPhone does not fit that space so not sure how anything would work to charge it there.
