Hi there ^^ I also want to permanently turn off that annoying auto-rev..... because it just changed my driving style which I don’t like. I drove brz, sti, miata before, I really enjoyed doing rev-match & heel-toe by myself. I heard someone said if u switch to sport mode, the auto-rev will not interfere u while u rev-matching on your own. I’ve tried this method before, I can say that the auto-rev is just a little less intrusive because it still sometimes interferes me while I rev-match or heel toe by myself..... so that’s why I want to turn auto rev off permanently!!!

With the DSC COMPLETELY off, Rev Match is completely disabled. Or you code it out. Nothing in between, as far as I know. |

All BMWs and BMW made MINIs made after 1996 have the "Anti-stall" feature you are referring to; it's tied into the ECU and clutch pedal sensor.
If you code out Rev-matching or "Start Car without pressing clutch" you inadvertently disable the clutch pedal sensor and EVERY feature that it feeds data to i.e Hill Hold, Anti-Stall, Auto-Start Stop, ect. Your car will become "old school" but to me, it made take offs from a dead stop a real chore.. Maybe I'm spoiled.. Last edited by Poochie; 04-17-2018 at 02:46 AM.. |

If you can nail balancing the clutch and gas preventing the "nanny" from kicking in you should be able to drive this car with the dead clutch sensor deactivated. The main clutch switch is still intact however.

I was just pointing out that coding the features indicated causes the vehicle to have a different driving dynamic. |

Thanks for the post guys. I got my 2018 car back in March, and have been giving the revmatch a shot to see if it gets better with time. It doesn’t. I know some like it, but I hate it - to the point I was considering selling the car. The technology isn’t a bad idea, but the execution is not there. It’s not smart enough to understand how fast I am going to change gears, and release the clutch. It’s too aggressive for around town and too slow for really spirited use. I find myself having to time my actions to match what the car expects - as someone on another forum accurately described I feel like “ a monkey pulling levers”.
I have tried driving all the time with traction full off, but I like some nannies for everyday driving, and also that mode loses the sport plus throttle that I like. I turned off the rev match today by coding and the car is hugely improved. Now I can actually drive the car. Confidence to come into a turn on a downshift is back, and the car is now fun to drive. I know what it is going to do. ( am I the only one who has come in hot, banged it down a gear only to have the engine still be revving up as the clutch goes out - it’s scary. ) I like the sport plus throttle ( I know some find it too aggressive ), and now I can drive through town without the embarrassingly huge blip when I go down to second. To me it also feels like the car has stopped playing with the throttle on upshifts too - I find it much easier to drive with smooth changes that I control. Taking off is no issue. Maybe it’s just me. I’m used to racing vintage where I have to be fast/smooth with the controls to avoid blowing the old gearboxes, so I toe/heel without even thinking. However, for me, This car is much, much better under “manual” throttle control. Thanks again. ( BTW everything went as expected with the coding. I do now have to hit the start twice, but otherwise no negative impact. I have noticed the clutch needs to held down for a second or two on start, otherwise it will cut out - I assume that’s because it cannot “see” the second clutch switch any more) Last edited by GT6Racer; 07-09-2018 at 07:06 AM.. |

Quick update. Still loving the car. Some observations :
Not only is two presses of the start needed, but it also necessary to hold down the clutch for a second or two. No big deal just need to get used to it. I can see why some find takeoff harder with rev match off. It’s to do with the various throttle maps of the modes, I think the base mode response is so slow, the car normally fills in the revs for you, so you miss it when rev match is off. In sport, just a touch of throttle has the car moving. So with rev match off, you need to drive a little differently in the various modes.. For me, the absence of the revmatch is a vast improvement to the car. |

Thank God someone found this and linked it to me! We were pretty close to selling the car because of this.
The quote below pretty much sums up our feelings about it. Hopefully we'll feel the same way when we code it out. My wife replaced her highly modded 135 with the M2 and she has been pretty disappointed so far. I hope this makes her like the car now. Just gotta buy the stuff to code it out... all of my BMW software is for the older cars. Quote:

Ran into a glitch with the 2018 F87. Seems that "start engine without clutch" in regular mode shows not active as the default value that is turned on.
Had to go into expert mode in FEM_01, go to Group 3020. TCM_STARTLOCK_CLUTCH and change there from "aktiv" to "nicht_aktiv" and complete the coding. I didn't read every post in this thread to see if someone else had this issue and IDK if it was just my car or all 2018s or something with Bimmercode but if anyone has this issue, that's how to get around it... It's very nice to have this turned off. The car behaves like a normal car now. The wife will like it too. |
