I am curious to see what the BMW legend (M3) is all about in its G80 form. . . will it be visceral like the M2C, or will it be more a 'touring' sedan, as you describe it? Regarding the G87, I truly think BMW understands what the ///M2 means to enthusiasts crowd . . . and the G87 will be the next great ///M car. We shall see soon enough. ///AVM |

I had several E30 M3's and don't care for them relative to newerVMW's but that doesn't mean it sucks or it's a "lesser choice". I'd rather drive a M2 then a E30 M3. I'd also rather take my chances on a CS then the M4 I just turned in. And don't even start me on the new M3/4 front grill..... But if you like it, I hope it's great!

Unfortunately, your argument holds zero water . . . there are plenty of CS allocations available all over the country for anyone who wants one. Price is not an issue, so that is out the door. I had a choice and chose the Competition. Simple as that. I do not 'hate' the CS. It is simply an over-priced Competition, and I think the Competition is fantastic. Expressing an interest in the G80/82/87 is not the same as hating on the outgoing F8X model lineup. Again, I was inquiring if the wait has been too long . . . and whether anyone has refocused their attention from F87 CS to G80/82/87? No hate in the question. ///AVM |

My jest was really just that if the G87 is not well received or "sucks" in the eyes of the journalists or the enthusiasts it will prop up the value for all F87 owners and likely the CS in particular. So sometime long down the road when I may be ready to move on it'll leave a little extra cash in my pocket for the next thing. Truly, and purely a selfish motivation. Outside of that I'd have no interest or justification in it, and as I illustrated above, I have no actual desire to see the cars not proceed forward. I love MY E36, F25, and F30. They are each wonderful and unique in their own ways, and the F87 will be a great addition to the family.

My view around this assuming people are truly rational on these decisions (they are definitely not) is that the G80/G82 is too large for those really after the type of car that the F87 represented (otherwise they would have gone the F80 route etc). The G87 M variant isn't slated to be seen until early 2023, so it's a long way out, basically a full lease term away, so I don't think it's in scope for the decision.

I looked at the G80 M3C.. I been on quite a ride deciding between my 18 f80 m3c, m2 cs or g80 m3c.
Ultimately, I opted against the g8x for a few reasons.. #1 - it's not a secret anymore, if your dream car was an e46 m3 -- then the f87 is the car you want. The M3 grows in size and weight every damn generation - we're now only a few inches from the size of a f10 m5. 3900+ pounds? #2 - the car is overstylized - take the bmw badges off and would you think its a lexus? if you could men in black your brain and erase what the g series bmw looks like - no way you'd ever guess that is a bmw m3. #3 - the g8x m3c is now just a german muscle car that goes fast in a straight line and is bought for instagram flex/followers. I'm eager to see driving impressions, but there is no way the g8x is going to feel as nimble as a f87 m2c or cs variant. #4 - I personally would never ever purchase a first year model or pre-LCI even. With the F80 18 MY or F87 M2 CS, you have the very best of that generation after multiple years of repetition in the factory. With the g8x, we're going to see this model, LCI, and eventually a CS variant #5 - the real m3 (drivers car) won't be out until 2023, from what I'm hearing. The new m3 just looks like a huge tank, touring model, great for highway - loads of tech, overstylized looks and plenty of interior upgrades to flex to your heart desire.. reviews withstanding, I just don't see it as "the ultimate driving machine" Just my thought - god knows I can still change my mind.

///M is for Marketing.
The new cars SUCK ! I am fine missing the boat on the new heavy ass porkers that BMW builds. My E92 M3 is a PIG ! M2 CS just clicks the right buttons for old timers. Good luck BMW in your next adventure. I am moving on after the CS. Chet
