The HK in my 2017 M2 sounds better than the premium in my e92 M3, and my X1 - I'm very happy with it.

He has a 2016 M235i which has the same HK stereo that the M2 has.
I have the HK stereo in my 2016 M2 and I think it sounds great.A bunch of people have complained about the system not sounding good in the MY16 M2.My only complaint is that it lacks the really good bass you get in the HK Logic 7 system. From the info that has been posted here,it looks like they changed the amp on the MY17 M2,so maybe there is a slight improvement in the sound quality of the system. |

From reading this thread people are saying there is a big difference in quality between 2016 and 2017 and the majority seems to be happy with it so much so that they won't be upgrading.

The HK system in my 2017 M2 sounds pretty good, unless you're an audiophile I don't think you need to upgrade it. I think it sounds better than the HK in my 2016 M3 even with the EQ tweaked.

I have heard on this forum that the Hard drive on this system down converts the bit rate to something less than CD quality. I put of few songs on it the other day to see how it sounds and I cant tell the difference between the CD and what I recorded on the internal HD. Has anyone else used it? Agree, disagree? I am not an audiophile. Perhaps hearing loss over the years may account for this.

Am yet to listen to a MY17 to compare myself but what exactly do us with MY16's need to change to improve the quality to match MY17's?
I'm assuming the speakers themselves are the same so is it confirmed it's just the amp that Bmw has changed that makes all the difference? |

How is the bass in the car? I'm considering adding 1 or 2 12in subs in the trunk if I'm not satisfied. I listen to mainly hiphop and rap so that low end thump bass is essential.

It's pretty strong, not shake your teeth out like if you had aftermarket subs strong but it's loud enough to overpower the mids and highs if you turn the bass setting up. I don't think you'd need to add 2 12's unless you just want to wake up your neighbors.

Glad to hear the bass is good enough to "feel" it. |

I would be interested in the answer to this also! Real OEM does show a different part# for the amp after 7/2016 (2017 part would be 65126836346). What does "nonexchangeable retrospectively" mean? 01 TOP-HIFI SYSTEM AMPLIFIER 1 up to 07/2016 65126824078 01 TOP-HIFI SYSTEM AMPLIFIER 1 65126836346 65126824078 TOP-HIFI SYSTEM AMPLIFIER From:03/01/2016 Superseded by: 65126836346 (07/01/2016 ), nonexchangeable retrospectively |

This is the best indication of a 2017 2-series audio quality improvement I've read yet.

Hi,
Just picked up my 2017 M2 yesterday with the HiFi-stereo and have some first impressions. I decided not to get the H/K (was initially in my build) as it seemed a lot of people was not impressed by it but got second thoughts and planned on re-adding it to my build but I was too late as it was locked for production. Anyway, my initial thoughts is that I have Zero regrets for not getting the H/K as the HiFi-system actually sounds really good to my ears. Especially considering it is not broken in yet. Bass is OK but low frequency extension seems to be only to about 50Hz, will check with some test tracks (bass sweeps). However the built in EQ-function in the system seems to add a couple of DBs around 70-80hz as that seems a bit exaggerated. The rest of the range, mid and treble is quite natural sounding with no harschness despite it is still breaking in. I was expecting a sound system that was so bad music would not even be enjoyable so I am pleasantly surprised I actually think it is a pretty darn good stock system. It is easily on par with my dadīs Merc C63 with H/K sound system. Also, ASD seems alot less intrusive compared to the 2016 demo M2 I tried in April. Perhaps there are some changes made that have had positive effect on the sound quality? Br |

though i miss the EQ, the HK on my 2017 230 convertible sounds much better than my 2015 HK logic 7 328 did. Maybe its the size of the car. But even on the highway it sounds better to my ears.
the hk l7 on my 3 made my ears hurt with logic on or off- in 3 years i could never get it adjusted to my liking and with the 2 and only a few settings, it sounds much better to me. but would be thrilled of eq were available on it. |
