When to replace track pads
I absolutely love my Pagid RSL1 pads for the track! I can't imagine a better pad. I have between 40-50% of the pad left after two days at Road America, four days at BIR and a couple Track Nights in America. I am wondering when you fellow track guys replace your track pads. Do you go down to 20% left or...?
Placing this post in this forum to get responses from track-focused members. Thanks! Ken |

Agree with Pal. Under 50% pads tend to disappear quicker. I would replace when you have 30% left.
I've pushed a set of Carbotech XP10s below 20%, and ended up bending the backing plates. The pad material crumbled and I had to do a roadside pad swap on the way home. Not fun, but lesson learned.

For ME22 4 and 5 mm remaining pad material was too little for high speed track (Red Bull Ring in Austria), large pieces of pad material just broke off. Learned this lesson as well and always will keep replacement pads with me.

Wow, those look like they attempted to stop the rotation of the sun. What brand was this?

Thanks for sharing. What brake fluid do you use, and how did it hold up at those temps?
600C is around 1112F. Most track pads are fade resistant to 1400-2000F. So even at these temps that should not happen. Last edited by 5.M0NSTER; 06-22-2019 at 03:51 AM.. |

My Pagid RSL-29s got down to about 30% front when I replaced them. That was too far-- next time I'll replace them sooner. On the upside, I think the heat transfer contributed to my front calipers turning from blue to green, so now I have legit track cred.

Back from the dead! (I’m bored... so sue me)
I’ve taken a set of PFC’s down to probably 10-15%. This was in my e36 which was a lighter (and slower on long straightaways) car. Wouldn’t recommend trying it but the pads were still performing perfectly when I took them off. I’d like to chalk that up to how great the PFCs are but I am biased and think they are among the best. |

With Pagid RSL29 and Castrol SRF, I definitely notice the pedal get a tad soft and engagement point move in when the pads are below 50%. They still work well, and I’m a cheap bastard, so I run them down to 20-25%, but I do notice a distinct difference.
