M2 Competition - Electric vs Manual Seats
Hi all,
When I was buying my OG M2 it was understood that the manual seat sat lower and weighed less than the electric seats. Is this still the case for the seats in the M2 competition? Anyone have any stats?? Thanks |

The only time that was available for the OG M2 was the 2017 "Performance Edition". |

It's itemized as a la carte option, outside of North America. |

I really can't help you there, I would assume like 20 to 30lbs or so lighter. I do know the original M2 seats are pretty heavy, like at least 50lbs.. : I only know they have a manual seating option in the ROW, from the video below.. |

We can safely call the U.S spec cars, the heavyweight M2C.
You guys are loaded with everything that weighs more without an option to remove them. - 788 (6kg over 437M) - 2NH Big Brake (15kg over blue brakes) - Electric Seats Automatically 21kg savings for other owners outside of the US that do not choose these options

Manual M2 seats are very rare as a lot of cars have the Comfort Pack (and Plus Pack) which have the electric seats.
Been searching for some from breakers for ages. |

I'll bet they are still quite heavy. Aftermarket will be your best bet for weight savings there.

It is always interesting cars bound for the US have less choices in options than European cars. In Europe, it seems like they go for a more a la carte model. In US, we always just get the "top tier" options and many come standard. Not necessary complaining about this, but curious why such a variation in different.
Maybe historically Americans tend to check all the top tier items anyways?

Consider yourself lucky in the US for options
In NZ, here's our very extensive list of options...
All the others are basically optioned in on your behalf. DTC, Harman Kardon, Electric seats, Led headlights etc. We don't get to have heated steering and WiFi hotspot either Manual transmission is by request as special orders. |

But again I ask, why are there so many variations on options in each market. Would assume supply chain and costs to be much easier if options are standardized across geographies.

Rather not - already had this discussion with multiple people - don't believe this type of harness is safe - especially for street use. Would want a full 6 point harness if I wanted anything and then I might as well get full race buckets.

tried to fix the photo & the whole post went! I know some don't like them though it has the anti sub tech, I know a big rollover could be an issue

I ordered my M2C yesterday and placed the order without the electric seats. My father in law used to have electric seats on his Mercedes E350 and I find it a bit unpractical. I bet the electric ones weight more, for sure.

Those of you ordering manual seats to save a buck or two on the build have some merit. But whoever does this in the name of "lighter weight" on a street car is a lunatic.
That little extra weight is down low and right smack in the center. In other words, you would never feel the difference, even during spirited drives. And if you think that it does make a difference, you better damn be a race car driver with solid credentials. And even then, you're a lunatic. As for the mechanism, I owned an e36 and e46 M3's for over a decade with power seats and never heard of a failure, much less experienced one. |
