I really dig the C7 GS. Imagine the C8 GS ......

It has an 8 speed DCT, 496 HP NA V8, mid-engine, 12 paint colors, custom colored interiors and starting $60k. 😲 Then you can add even more HP and that famous magna ride suspension. 🤪

To me the M5 is still the ultimate daily- 4 doors with a big trunk, folding rear seats, more luxury and just as quick (or quicker)on the road.... certainly not on track.

But as a weekend car, I'm all about the C8.

I was considering an M2 or 718 to add to the garage.. not anymore! 500hp mid engine NA V8, 3400lbs, I'm in!

I wish BMW had the balls to do something unique like this for the M8.

Tremec 8 speed DCT.

The nightmare has just begun.

Waiting 3yrs to verify reliability before considering it.

If reliable, the GS trim should still be the sweet spot and will kill all within price range.

The wife has an M2 LCI and love it.

Looking at a 718 GTS but I'm with you, if the C8 proves reliable, no contest.

Did the C7 have a manual transmission? I'm guessing no manual transmission on the C8. Just curious, not trying to start a manual vs auto war.

Apparently there will be no manual in the C8. I found an article that shows a GM patent for an 8 speed DCT. Anyway I don't really care who makes the DCT as long as it is fast smooth and reliable.

M2c isn't anywhere near the performer that the c8/zo6 is. Completely different animal.

BMW should learn from Chevy and Porsche. Options matter.

Many colors for interior exterior brakes belts. Spoilers trim levels

Instead m2 you get: one interior color with two weak trim options, 5 colors trans, two colors of the same whew, exec package and sunroof

I wouldn't be a first model year buyer but, after the bugs are worked out by say, 2021, what car enthusiast wouldn't consider this?

Fuck it. I'll wait for the ZR1 and give 720 LT drivers a run for their money.

Kills everything even close in price range with *two* seats. Four seats are very important for many of us. Unless it drives and/or feels like complete garbage, why bother with a GT3 outside of the label? This will/should kill many cars. Sorry Supra. Lack of manual sucks, but that's the trend these days and a 3 second 0-60 is getting past many peoples manual driving skills.

IMO, there's still room - maybe not demand - for a new Lotus Elise type car. Less HP with much less weight at the same price point would still be very compelling.

LOL, that's actually one thing I like about the M2! It's basically "fully loaded" without all the dumb choices for $5k per package, etc. I hate that an M4 is marketed at $70k, but to get the "real" M3 you need to get the competition package and so on.

On the Vette, undoubtedly the options will cost a reasonable amount, but have you ever priced out a Porsche? Honestly, it makes my head spin. I've had a hard time with them. Maybe it's my personality, but too many options and I have the hardest time deciding. It's hard enough to pick the color of the car . Besides, even basic things, which are included on a $20k Honda (such as keyless entry) cost an extra $1100 on the Porsche.

M2 killer? No, not really, unless they're making a C8 with a manual + rear seats that can fold down...

Caymans and Supras might have a problem on their hands though.

I drove the c7 z06 with its 650hp and the m2 back to back once. The corvette is definitely more sports car but the m2 is more fun. It also does not scream Look at me !! Maybe some years down the line I will get a used c8 if I'm lucky but I could never drive a mid engined car. It always wants to go straight while turning.

yeah I don't like being forced to take packages, it's like bundling cable channels you don't need to get the ones you do.

i mean things that kinda make it your own, combinations of colors, color choices.

we have ONE interior available. ONE. no, I don't want to be forced into a different car to get a choice (M4), I want the M2C. how about multiple wheel choices? how about more exterior color choices?

agree on optioning out pcars gets nuts cost wise but they can find a balance.

the M2C is not really "loaded" e.g. you can buy a bunch of aftermarket crap for it that would load it up. exhaust, carbon bits/aero etc.

The M2 is just too low volume for a major brand to have the options available.

From a performance standpoint, of course, not even close. However, I'm not sure there will be much cross-shopping between the M2 and the Corvette as they have such different purposes and typical demographics.

It is certainly exciting for America to be producing a car that can, performance-wise, compete with much more expensive European sports cars. And given that most of the aforementioned European sports cars don't offer a manual transmission, I can see how Chevrolet justified the DCT-only decision. Given I'm not in the market for this car, I'm having difficulty understanding why that decision still bothers me so much....

Is it? they have more options on the 2 series, and doesn't it get made on the same assembly line as the 2 series?
