Is that the only way you're giving up the 1M?

I'm only trading the current wet dream for another ..

My E84 X1 seems more likely to be traded off someday because i would have just as much fun with flappy paddles driving around the street and track in an X3m40 or an X3M.

This is the way we should all think about the cars we buy, not "oh I need the new one because it's new and it must be better!"

I personally hope you never give up that BSM 1M. Drive it til the wheel fall off, fix, then repeat. That's what I'd do and will do with my car.

Any idea how many will end up being produced? Sounds like it won't be as exclusive as I originally thought it was. Or not enough to warrant selling the 1M for it at least .... Decisions decisions.

It won't be as exclusive so its resale value won't be nearly as high and its steering feel won't be nearly as good. In every other way it will be superior. Base your decision on that.

This was answered in the Q&A.

Arguably it could be more exclusive (not that I care) since it has a shorter production run.

What do you base this comment "steering feel won't be nearly as good" on?

In comparison to the 1M, it won't be as rare. Also the the 1M has a hydraulic steering rack.

Based on the amount of M2’s that will be produced for the full production run,the MY16 M2 will have the lowest production of all M2 models. There were very few that were produced. The only M2 model that could have lower production would be the M2 CSL,which hasn’t been confirmed yet.

I’m actually kinda relieved it won’t be as exclusive. Makes my decision easier to keep the 1M

What is the timeline for the M2 Competition?

So, does anyone have a projected release date for the M2 Competition? I need to start making a plan for what cars to keep and which ones might go and when. I figure I let go of two leased cars(if timing is right) and keep the M2 PE until I see the CS is the one to keep.

Any guess on dates?

I think I remember a June date floating around - but I am sure Artemis has the exact date.

I think if you look at production capacity and end of production and factor those two together M2 comp will be semi exclusive.

BMW still cant produce as many M2's as they can since they are limited on the production line.

The EOP for M2 comp will be 2020 I believe. So that's roughly just 2 years of production?

I still do not see many regular M2's on the road either.

Question is. Will BMW produce the same amount of M2 Comps as they did regular M2's?? If this answer is no, than M2 Comp will be semi exclusive IMO.

Scott26 said it won't be on sale until September for Europe but he did leave the question mark,so it looks he doesn't know the official date that the car will be available at dealers.

Question:
Many of us don't like the sound of the M3/M4 and blame it's "fartiness" on the S55, and hope against hope that the M2 Comp sounds better (since most of us think the N55 M2 sounds better than an M3/4).
Isn't that something that can be solved by a better exhaust setup though? Why is it the engine's fault. The farty sound seems to me to be the result of a valve flapping (much like a butt cheek). Wouldn't a valve-less exhaust cure much of that problem?

I'm no exhaust expert, but I think it's much more than that. Off the top of my head, things that affect the sound of your exhaust include, but are not limited to...
  • Cylinder firing order
  • Exhaust scavenging
  • Exhaust collector
  • Exhaust diverted to drive turbo/s
  • Turbo wastegate
  • Catalytic converter
  • Resonator
  • Mufflers (w/wo valve closed)
BMW has over the past couple of years re-tuned the exhaust on the M3/4, it sounds better than the earlier models, but still not as good as the n55. If you look at the spy pics of the M2 Competition you'll see they are using the same looking muffler as the upcoming G80 M3. Possibly a sign of them reworking the exhaust to sound better.

Several models are made at the BMW Leipzig factory. Very busy production lines.

I agree, I think BMW has been listening to the S55 criticisms.

The problem with the S55 sound is fundamental to that engine.

6 headers routed into 2 individual turbos that does not combine down the stream results in the lawnmower 3 cylinder engine sound.
They designed the engine that way and chances are they aren't going to be able to change the exhaust routing without affecting the factory design.

There's only so much they can sound tune. People make it louder with aftermarket stuff but it still sounds very raspy and empty

There are aftermarket full length exhausts out there for the M3/4 that combine the exhaust routing to make a better sound, but still falls short when the revs go high.

With what we have seen from the test cars, the S55 sound remains.
