According to my dealer "M2 Competition will officially be called M2 CS"

Spoke with my dealer today. I've been informed that the new M2 will not be called the Competition but will officially be launched under CS branding. The M2 Clubsport is likely to be unveiled 2nd quarter of the year with first customer delivery's to be into the 3rd quarter.

The photo circulating of the M2 Competition branding is in fact a fake/edit.

Opinions on this?

I thought it was known that whatever the dealer says should be taken with a grain of salt? That they know as much about the M2 CS/Comp as we do, maybe even less? Or am I wrong

You will learn a very valuable lesson about your amazing dealer when the car is unveiled.

Could it be called different model in different markets ?

I’m sure the e46 CS was only named that in the UK?

My contact an my local dealer is a M Specialist, that stands for nothing I know, however his manager there used to be directly employed by BMW UK and has contacts over in Germany who have reliably informed him it will be launched under CS branding.

Well that is interesting.

I feel like CS name gets a bigger price bump. The Competition name gets a smaller price bump.

Since we're spreading fake news today, let me just take this time to announce the all new Hybrid M2 (that I managed to photograph after breaking into bmw headquarters):

Don't let the pre-lci gauge throw you off. It's a common trick they use over in Munich.

I also managed to snap a pic of the all new Area 51 special edition:

And lastly, I didn't want to say anything earlier but fuck it i'll tell everybody cause i'm such a nice guy. I'm actually SUPER well connected at BMW. I have MANY connections. The BEST connections. My dad actually used to own BMW. The entire corporation. Therefore I have a leaked photo of the M2 CSL as well:

My SA showed me that pic so it has to be real. Def didn't buy an E46 badge on ebay and put it on a regular M2. Def didn't do any coding to make my instrument display show different logos. No sir. Just well connected.

CS would make more sense from a recent naming perspective, especially if the new car has visual tweaks and there's a concerted effort to reduce weight - it's somewhat confusing if they go forward with "Competition" just because the ZCP has been an option after the initial release of the M3 (and recently M4) and M5 for a couple of generations now.

I am not saying it won't be "Competition", I just think the moniker is stupid - especially if the car indeed becomes the base M2.

All of your sources are wrong. My source deep inside BMW's rectum showed me the official name.

P.S. Old joke.

MODS should delete this thread. Adds even more confusion.

Title has now been edited to avoid confusion: According to my dealer "M2 Competition will officially be called M2 CS".

My belief is there will be an M2 with an available comp pack and a separate CS model. In other words just like M4. Makes sense doesn't it from the consistency perspective? As for weight reduction give me a break nylon door pulls won't cut it. BMW isn't into that anymore the E46 CSL is a long distant memory and an anomaly. BMW is great at badge engineering and marketing these days with minor repackaging. My M2 is likely the last BMW I'll buy I'm very put off by the brand. Never thought it would happen but here it is. When M2 outlasts it's usefulness it's Porsche for me not some rebranded M2 with tweaks.
