What do you need to commit to get an allocation from a dealer? Put down a refundable deposit?

Then that allows you to spec out a new car with the build you want?

If so I might do it. Could be a win win. Unless they lowball you on your trade in when your car shows up

In regards to the car: I bought a 17 knowing the 19 is coming. Thus one of the reasons I passed on ordering (and waiting 2 months) for an 18. If the 19 comp looks hot, I'd do it. But need to learn more about the S55. Just because it has more power, it might ruin the balance I love about the current M2. And the sound on the M3 is, well, terrible so they would need to fix that on the M2.

I was pulling into our club last night behind an M4 vert. He hit the gas and it honestly made me cringe its so bad stock. WTF! So BMW would need to address this on the M2 ZCP.

In regard to sound, I am 100% sure the S55 M2 will sound different from the the M3/M4.

The piping will be different. Now if it's you cup of tea or not... we don't know yet.

Typically a couple steps involved.

Dealer will usually ask for $500-$1000 refundable deposit. This will get you in line for an allocation. Depending on the dealer there may be ten people ahead of you, there may be none.

Once the car is announced the dealer will start getting allocations. Bigger and higher volume dealers usually get them first. Once they get enough allocations to get to your spot in line, they will contact you and ask for your specs. They may want a bit more deposit money once the car is ordered to your specs, maybe not. They may tell you you need to pay over MSRP or they're going to the next guy in line, unfortunately it's a bit of a game at this point. You can either proceed or walk from there.

The plumbing can not be exactly the same as the M3/M4 the cars are of different length alone. C'mon my M2 makes the same sounds. The differences are subjective. I think this sounds fine to me btw.

Watch this video @ approx 2mins

Huh? you know no one is talking about the over run right?
Under throttle full load sound is completely different. Let's not start ignoring facts.
That howl and deep tone from the N55 makes it sound like a mini Ferrari while the S55, ZCP or not, sounds like a Civic

You can change the exhaust piping all you want, there's no escaping the fart can sound under load with the S55.
At this stage unless BMW have been driving a test car with a not finalized exhaust, I'd say you're stuck with the sound.

About 95% of all car enthusiasts I've talked to agrees the S55 sounds horrible.
Maybe you're the 5% out there who actually think it sounds good. If so the comp is perfect for you.

It sounds horrible on startup, I'll give you that.

However, once going, possibly due to the sound piped in from the stereo, I think it has a deeper, meaner, louder, more raw aggressive sound.

But that startup. Ugh!

Startup on the M2 is glorious. Deep and grumbly. No comparison between the two.

Agreed. The S55 from in the cabin does sound pretty good.

I've heard maybe one or two decatted or HFC fitted with aftermarket exhaust S55s sound relatively OK from outside.

In those cases, I'd say it's characteristics is very loud and raspy with machine gun pops.

I watched this again because I'm on the fence '18 vs '19. There is no way I would be able to tolerate that disgusting sound. Also, what if the M2 with S55 sounds WORSE than M4.

Didn’t the (M2) development team tell Sammy at Bimmerpost the sound was critical to them? They wanted it to be part of the experience. I can’t imagine they abandon that on on this iteration by making it worse than the M3/M4.

That clip does not sound worse. I think S55 is tolerable/enjoyable, but N55 has a more enjoyable deeper tone.
At this point -

S55 > N55

There is a guy at my office with a white comp pack M3 (I think because 666m wheels) and I heard him fire it up in the parking garage just after I parked and it just sounded like a lawnmower. I just started shaking my head. He revved it and I was just thinking, jeez, I hope that's a lease.

Mini Ferrari? lol. S55 sounds worse and everyone knows this, but N55 is a far cry from a "mini Ferrari". It sounds good - for a turbo engine. There are at least 4 recent BMW engines that sound better and that's before we get into any other brands. The closest BMW has ever come to Ferrari sound is the S85, but it's still not quite there.

It DOES sound better once it’s warmed up a bit. Takes a couple of minutes for sure but better to judge the sound when he’s coming in sometime, instead of leaving.

I’ve consistently said that the sound isn’t great, but it’s not bad either. 5 on a 10 point scale in my opinion.

So you guys are saying that you like the ASD and therefore don't care about what the exhaust really sounds like??
