I had never considered myself an orange fan, until I saw Valencia orange on the 1M (which was pretty special), and I've liked Sakhir orange on the M4 (but not so much on the M3).
It's a darker shade of orange and as far as I could tell it was not as bright as VO when the sun hits it (VO really pops) but its a LOT darker when its cloudy. Both turn bronze.

Its the darkness that puts me off it.

Sakhir is a more consistent colour in variable lighting but to my eye always looks orange. This would have been my preference and it's an M specific colour too (for the moment). My personal preference below:

Light
VO>SOII>SO

Dark
SOII>VO>SO

Think I would take any of these individual colours over what they intend to offer

This is meant to be a special car not one for the school run!

I had also noticed that post and had inquired as follows:

Thanks for the info.

It just leaked that the forthcoming M2 CS is getting Hockenheim Silver as one of five colors (other four: Alpine White, Black Sapphire Metallic, Long Beach Blue and Sunset Orange) (see here).

Can you give us any hint how this silver color looks ? Is it similar to good old 'Polaris Silver' or more like 'Titanium Silver' ?

I think you are over thinking this.

They removed GRAY and added SILVER. That's what it comes down to when you strip away the fancy names.

unrelated piece of trivia -

The E30 M3 by the way had a similar change from sterling silver to lachsilber ( salmon silver- a dark gray ) during its run, however diamandschwartz stayed throughout.

When it comes to the M2, the take rate for colors has been roughly ....

40% LBB
35% WHITE
15% BSM
10% MG

Clearly the color at the bottom of the heap got the ax in favor of hockenheim silver. Orange is a throwback towards the 1M I suppose and still avoids those that are a fan of red.

As another person mentioned ... the following will be evident upon seeing certain M2...

All MG M2 are standard.
All Hockenheim silver are M2 CS
All sunset orange are M2 CS
All BSM M2 are badass! (Ok that might be a writer embellishment ! )

Whilst waiting to know how 'Hockenheim Silver' looks, whetting the silver appetite a little.

Dug up a couple of 2015 silver renders made by forum fellow Paul-Bracq-BMW:

For silver color purposes: see also this silver M2 bird by Japanese tuner 3D Design (color: Pure Metal Silver):

Kudos to you too.

He replied that Hockenheim Silver has color code C33 and popped up in the BMW system in May 2017:

I don't recall having seen it in person (it's code C33 and was added to the database in May). It will be shown soon with plenty of time to decide before it's available to order. So far the only F90's I've been around were BSM, Rhodonite Silver, Marina Bay Blue (Film Car with Comp Pkg), Alpine White, and the new Frozen color teased recently.

I found the same colour code with a quick google. You can already purchase paint repair kits in the form of pen, aerosol and bottle.

Might get em some!

Not at all. 'Sunset Orange' is rolled out for at least the 1er, 2er, 3er, 4er and even the X1 ('X1 Orange Edition'). So if you'll spot a Sunset Orange BMW in the future, you got plenty of possibilities.

FWIW: BMW describes Sunset Orange as "a contemporary interpretation of the colour which was popular in the 1970s and available for the first generation of the BMW 3 Series initially as Inca Orange and later as Phoenix Orange".

My understanding is the sunset orange is only on the CS ... ? So indeed all M2 that are sunset orange will be M2 CS.

I have no doubt that sunset orange will be whored out across the lineup just like Valencia Orange was. .. all the way to the E84 X1( ( mine is BSM... )

Funny how people here are already wishing for Sakhir to be on a 2 series ... : as if it being on the M3, M4 , M5 , and M6 wasn't enough ??

I'm in the orange camp, but some of those silver renders might have me convinced to go silver.

I have to say I like LBB just because it's not available for the other 2 series cars, I'd like it even more if it was only for the M2. I'd be more willing to consider the orange if it wasn't going to be on the 230i's, that was the nice thing about the 1M in orange, that is until they put the same color on the X1. I get that BMW are worried about costs and that this plant doesn't really have the ability to do more special paints and so we have to share more colors but I wish real M cars colors were more separately colored across the board as they sometimes have been in the past. Personally I'd take something obnoxiously different like a metallic lime green if they were to offer it.

The fact no dark blue is being offered is still a total mystery to me. This car would look gorgeous in tanzanite or similar.

I would go for the Orange, but the blue calipers clash big time. It works with the silver though.

I agree, was hoping they would keep CS colors consistent with the M4CS and offer SMB and LMG

Part of the issue may be that the car is painted at Leipzig. They seem to want to keep things as lean as possible there.
