who uses DVD/CD player? ... anyone?

I'm just a bit upset that I don't have comfort access, yet I have a DVD/CD player. This car was supposed to be a lightweight version, so why keep that archaic piece of equipment? i don't even know where to buy dvd/cd anymore (blockbuster?)....

It would have been a nice spot for a plaque

I think most people use the CD player to copy the music to the head unit hard drive. You can code the DVD player to play movies while you drive. I coded mine but I've never once used the feature except as a test.

I don't even use the built in navigation anymore. Just get rid of all that shit and give me an old school dashboard and a place to mount my phone.

I never did use the built-in Nav. Google maps with waze features built-in is way better and it listens when I talk to it unlike the BMW Nav that is as dumb as a board.

I am going to export music from my X5 and import it to the CS, but in the meantime I have been using some CDs. It's nostalgic, you should try it!

I haven't use the CD/DVD player since the honeymoon period.. I still have an old "Aladdin" DVD left in there for years now..

But the navigation setup is pretty contemporary, with no lag whatsoever and it seeds off a 4G internet connection, so it's just as fast as your phone..

Since the maps updates for itself, the addresses are never obsolete.

I like it, it makes my driving experience much more seamless..

I've had the car a year and honestly wouldn't have been able to tell you if it had a cd player or not.

In my outdated opinion the car would be much better without the idrive, without the video screen and just a simple radio with wireless Bluetooth connectivity. That's the way I had my 1M speced and it was perfect for me.

I had no idea we had CD players. I just use XM Radio. If I don't have XM radio, I'll use Pandora. I'm old school thou. I don't even know how to spell Spotify.

Loading CD's onto the hard drive is a good idea. But does that cause additional weight? A 100 CD's is probably 5 lbs? And where do you store them all? Stack them into piles of 20 and store below the subframe to keep the center of gravity low?

I hope you are kidding.....the CD's don't stay in the car. The hard drive is there whether you load data into it or not. LOL

Just use Apple CarPlay, every car should come with a screen and thats it. Carplay/Android Auto is all thats needed. I do use Sirius XM natively though, which is nice.

Lol damn I must be old then. I listen to SiriusXM more than anything in the car (not that i drive much). Love my Howard 101. BPM and AltNation all the way for music too. Yes I do have Spotify but most times I just like to set and forget.

I will say the quality of SiriusXM in most OEM auto applications is quite lacking. Even Spotify is ok but not even close to true lossless quality like on Tidal.

Still, we are dealing with basic HK sound here. Nothing special. Now, the Bowers and Wilkins in the grocery-getter where I spend most time is simply perfection.

In Australia the B&W is a mere $9k upgrade

Wow! That's steep even with conversion rate! In comparison adding it was a steal at $3,400 USD!

Haha that's rich. So basically it's just EQ settings. Can't code in the diamond speakers! Haha

Lol, yeah, you can code in the B&O DSP as well. Some people seem to like that a lot. It's a clear difference from the H&K EQ, whether good or not, can't say.
I tried it, but ended up going back to H&K after a few days.
