M2 with the new M3/M4 s55 motor please. that would be perfect for me. it would probably bolt into the 2 series chassis fairly easy, Since the S55 is made from the N55 I'm willing to bet the bolt pattern is the same.

Scott, when do you anticipate the M2 test cars will start showing up on the Nordschleife and on public roads?

So power output expectation is 340-345bhp ~250kw.
That's pretty awesome, and also kind of funny. I benchmarked my number off the US market E46 M3, which had 333 HP

That's a little different though, they've already tuned N55's before. I think maybe they didn't try to crack the S63tu because the demand wasn't there, at the end of the day it's still a business and supply and demand runs things. I don't think there's an ECU that is uncrackable, for the longest they thought the ISF's ECU couldn't be cracked, but that's been proven wrong. Like anything, with enough time it can be done. I'm really just hoping BMS or COBB come out with something quick for the M235i, because 350-370hp just puts a bigger smile on my face than 322hp.

I would LOVE to drive the 1M...everyday...but since you only made like 10 of them, that's kind of difficult.

PS: I think our bmw boys can build an exciting 4 banger...

BMW M12/M13 turbo 1.5 liter four cylinder Formula 1 motor

The BMW M12 was by far the most powerful F1 engine of all time, running 5.5 bar of boost during qualifying in the Brabham BT55 in 1986, resulting in 1400 bhp, and in later versions like the one pictured here were tilted 72 degrees to lower the weight in the chassis... The biggest problem was they they tripled their horsepower within a 1000rpm rev range making them extremely hard to drive....

... 1st world problems!

having driven 4 bangers all my life, and now in a turbo 6----I have to say I'm a bit disappointed by the choice of a 4 banger in the M2. No matter how strung out a 4 is-----it never produces the kind of power you get from a 6....or the sound.
Power to weight ratio...

Secondly, nobody is going to get more power out of BMW's inline-6's, other than BMW & affiliates. (Their new ECU is unbreakable.)
Unbreakable? LOL

I bet there'll be tunes within the first few months, otherwise it's a dead platform.

Scott26, the new M2 as you described it sounds very much up my alley! I've owned many M cars and will continue to buy them (and Porsches - sorry!) as long as BMW M continue to make them agile, exciting and fun. I was tempted by the A45 due to the numbers but within 5 mins of driving it I knew it was not for me. If you want grip and fastest car point to point on mountain pass, then buy the AMG. If you want something that will dance in your hands and respond to your feet, buy a BMW M (or even a M135i which I currently have as my dd).

I have one question though. Can you confirm or comment on a rumour I heard that BMW M is targeting a weight of 1400kg for the M2? Makes sense when the M3 is only 1500kg.

I had a JB4 in my N54, but never bothered with the N55--I had heard it was more difficult to tune.

Do they have good options for the N55 now? I haven't looked in a long time.

.... 5 cylinders. ok? problem solved.

if they make an I4 M2... it better be as light as an EVO/STI...

is an I4 turbo going to be the true successor of an S54!?

if N54/n55 still have that minor feel of turbo lags... how is an I4 going to keep up with the "N/A feel" philosophy and call itself an M engine..

lets just use the M4 engine in the m2 and pretend it is the E46 M3csl of this era. thank you.

BMW won't make an I5 because the character of an I5 engine is completely out of sync with the BMW brand.

Another confirmation about the "soulless" AMG.
As of yet I do not know the full weight target of the M2. But the new philosophy at BMW M is directed towards more precision through lightweight technology.
The addition of a four cylinder emphasises lightweight as does the six cylinder in the M3/M4.

So by this I assume a 6-speed manual and its significant weight savings will always be available on cars like the M2/M3/M4?

If so this is great news among rivals abandoning this principle, which will go a long ways towards keeping and nurturing the enthusiast fan base M has had for so long!
