Which carbon fiber mirror caps do you recommend??
Dinan? BMW OEM? iND?
I'm looking at putting carbon fiber mirror caps on my M2, and wonder which caps other people went with, and how they like 'em? Not sure I like the "wing" (M Style) or prefer the simpler caps... probably prefer the simpler caps without the flying tail, or whatever it's called. OEM I think are out, as I'm not about to spend $650! The Dinan ones look really nice, for $350... iND also have new ones from Autotecknic, with the wing, but it has an indentation that isn't on the OEM ones... not that it matters. Anyone have these? (see image below) What I like about the iND caps is, they are made entirely of carbon fiber! Look at the inside, and you'll see carbon fiber, as opposed to the other brands, where if you look on the inside, it's plastic, so the other companies glue the carbon fiber on to plastic. Makes it heavier, and it may develop more problems down the line. Any from China that are really good quality, or decent, or worth getting? I don't mind waiting a little while, if there are good quality caps for a reasonable price. Thanks for any help! |

Those aren't real carbon, when you look at it closely then you will see the pattern was kinda artificial. Now I just leaving it as is, or may be paint it over to the same as my body color later. But the fitment was perfect for $70 CAD deal.

I can tell you the cheap stuff just bubbles up and looks like crap within a year of being exposed to the sun. Not sure about the more expensive options. Since I live in a hot and high UV area I don't put carbon fiber on my car. Buddy used some cheap CF mirror covers from China and they looked terrible in just a few months.

Oh no, I don't I want to buy them (at least not now). What I meant by no one has them was, no one having them installed on their car. Whenever I Google something M2 related it points me back here most of the time.
I like to get an idea of what people think of the products after they buy them, and if it's worth it. I've seen no one on here that has those mirror caps. Maybe there is someone, but I don't know. They look cool and are a unique design, vs. other CF mirror caps, but they're two to three times the price of most aftermarket mirror caps. I liked them as an alternative to getting the M mirrors caps, just wish they weren't so expensive. I could still get them some day, but would like to see some real world examples. |

I have the Akrapovic mirror caps. They look amazing. Fitment is the issue - left side is perfect, but right side does not sit flush with the mirror body and causes a whistle when driving above 40-50mph. I've tried removing and retightening that mirror, to no avail. Still very happy with them, thinking to add some filler material to fill the gap and remove the whistle. I absolutely love the look though.
I went with the matte carbon since the interior has matte carbon and it's a bit different than most of the exterior CF bits out there for the M2. Also it matches my matte carbon Akra CF diffuser, for a nice uniform look. |

I'm a pretty big fan of the IND caps, version 2. Perfect fitment and they flow really nice with the car (especially if you have other accents installed)

Ended up picking these up from a place called AutoID...
Excellent quality! The carbon fiber looks 3d in the ligh... the weave seems to move as you move the mirror caps back and forth! Very pleased, and it only cost $200 plus shipping. |
