6MT - Gear Shift Indicator

Morning,

Just notified that dash gear indicator showing incorrect gears. I’ve booked service appointment for tomorrow but wondering if PDI was not properly done/programmed?

Car has only 40km only

What do you mean by incorrect gears? I thought it supposed to show you the most efficient gear you should be in, not necessarily the one you are in.

Totally. I turned mine off within the first 100 miles. I also thought it risked confusing me on the track if I caught it out of the corner of my eye, brain farted and thought the display was the gear I was in, then money shift. Unlikely to happen, but it’s so useless anyway.

Do you have to code it to get it off?

Nope, it’s in the idrive settings somewhere. I’ll have to look when I get home.

This feature is useless and turned it off right away. Telling me i should be in 6th when going 40, wth??

Disable the setting is in idrive so if you have a 16, i can tell you how to disable it. I know the 17/18, the idrive menu path is different to disable.

Wish you could disable it on the F80. 6th gear at 30 mph really? In Sport+ with DSC off too? Really?

Super annoying in the m2. At least in my m235 I remember it was only there in comfort mode, I don't recall it being active in sport+ while the m2 has it for all modes.

I wish it could just be replaced with the current gear. I don't generally lose track of what gear I'm in, but it would be nice to have a reminder at times.

I wish it would at least show when you are in reverse. I've caught myself a couple times having it R by accident. Didn't you used to have to push down to get it into R in the past?

Ya its useless, anytime I'm over 40 mph its telling me to be in 6th gear.

I have left mine on because it entertaining to see it.

Are you a gorilla / super swoll?

Reverse takes a fair bit of effort to slam over to the left. I can't see myself ever getting to Reverse by accident... and I'm 6'3" / 280 pounds and not a weakling.

If you're regularly shifting so hard that you get R by accident, you might want to re-think how much force you're putting on the gear lever. If you're fighting it, you might be doing it wrong...

Yeah, have not driven an M2 but damn in my Z4M it is really close to impossible to get reverse when you want first.

same in the m2- not sure how anyone shifting properly / normally could do this by mistake unless he means he forgot he had it sitting in reverse?

Things like this and mpg indicator are things I don't understand. Give me boost gauge and current gear instead.
