When to start looking for an allocation?

Hi. I'm looking to do an ED for a M2C at around April or May 2019 (I know, super far ahead in the future, but I'm planning on a euro trip next year and would like for this to align) and I'm wondering when should I look for an allocation? or when should I email dealers?

I don't want to pay more than ED MSRP for this car though (personal belief) so that might throw a wrench in my chances?

Your best bet is getting your car in SoCal area, and drive it back home.
Forget about getting car in Midwest, I tried that and trucking fee is $1000 anyway. My dealer consider ED MSRP + $1500 back on M2 (not comp mind you)

The only other way is for people live close to South Carolina state, doing a PCD in Spartanburg, then you can order your car anywhere nationwide.

Wish BMWNA opens up another PCD in the West-coast.

Yup. I did that last time with an F22. However, I'm trying to figure out the timeline of when should I start looking. Since it's so far in the future and I've never done ED before I'm not sure if I should start looking like Oct/Nov or early next year or ...?

If you are doing European Delivery it really does not matter where you are purchasing from. It can be a BMW dealer in Maine and you live in California.

With picking up your car via ED program you can option for Courtesy Delivery. This program basically ships your car to a dealer that is closer to you in California. The hard part is finding an accepting dealer for the courtesy delivery and there is a fee as well around $500-750 usd. When you drop off your car in Europe and your BMW will get shipped directly to your accepting Courtesy Delivery dealer near you.

You can order from and dealer but don’t have to do courtesy redelivery as that rarely works. Take redelivery in SC or the California delivery center (Thermal I think).

Performance center delivery is not offered at Thermal.

BMW uses "courtesy" as a noun, not a verb in the context of "courtesy delivery" - hence the charge.

Just curiosity, why is it hard to find a dealership to accept a courtesy delivery?

Is it a pain in the ass for the dealership, or is it because its an extra hassle for a dealer that doesn't really get anything out of it?

Because many consider it a lost sale to their own dealership. They are in business to sell their own cars, not others or Tacos for that matter. Even if they can make a buck selling Tacos.

It's like asking Walmart to see if they will allow Amazon to ship your stuff to them for pick up. It's rare.

And then there is the background of courtesy delivery. I believe it was meant for people moving across the country, had multiple homes etc and wanted to deal with 1 local dealer. It wasn't so that people could shop outside their local area.

Bottom line - does it really matter why they charge for it? They just do, it's their choice, and their right. We should respect it. That's not to say we like it, but accept it.

I didn't at with my mustang boss laguna seca. Many dealer are willing but it's not free. It's still cheaper than to paying $250-$500 vs shipping truck and rish of damage.

Probably easier for me to just find a dealer within 500 miles and fly there after ED.

Seems like allocations are by quarter so would Jan be a good time to start emailing dealers?
